Who is Kim Nichols? The samples have been tracked down!

As famously asked in Wobbler's "Foreign Girl" remix - "Who is Kim Nichols"?

(Followed in 2020 by the "Still Don't Know Who Kim Is" mix!)

After years of not knowing where that vocal sample came from, or the samples with the submarine captain (I did contact Wobbler, who only remembered holding a microphone to catch whatever was on TV) I went on Reddit's TOMT:

A poster on there told me that all of the samples came from an episode of SeaQuest season 3, called "Equilibrium." Searching for that brought me to a subtitles website:

which confirmed this!

I know you probably can't hear me... But I had a girlfriend all through high school. Her name was Kim Nichols. We dated all through my senior year. And then I went off to the academy, and she went off to college. A few years later, I heard that she had gotten married. I felt like this... Gigantic... Hole had opened up and... Swallowed me. And being the emotional genius that I am, I realized that... It was because I loved her. But I had never told her. I'm not going to make that same mistake with you, Lonnie. I love you. And I'm not letting you go. Not like this.

"Lonnie" is a character called Lonnie Henderson. And I THINK the character saying all this to the comatose Lonnie was Jonathan Ford.

So... Who is Kim Nichols? The ex-girlfriend of a Seaquest DSV character, that's who!

Thanks! I'd tried googling the sampled speech, with no luck. Ironically, if I'd just googled shorter snippets, I would have found the subtitlecat results.

Next up - at some point I'll get back on Reddit and ask about the samples in Dafunk's "For Paradize" mix.
