Shadow of the Guitar

Post by xo »

Check out Shadow of the Guitar at amigaremix. Its a bit minimalistic but it certainly stands out in the crowd.

Yep, simply awful. I don't get it, why bother with "realistic" sounds in the first place if you don't pay attention to the implementation at all...

The execution is over-simplistic and the instruments aren't realistic, no question.

Nontheless, I find its style appealing; with the right attention, a remix in this style could've beaten a lot of other remixes in my book, then there's the fact that its a Shadow of the Beast remix, I really like that music.

There's a lot of remixes that are better performed but still boring to listen to. This is poorly performed but at least I can see it turn into a really great remix. - If you can't get what you want, you live with what you can get. *

I drool over the thought of a more refined version of this performed by a guitar virtuoso in front of two mic's. In the mean time I can listen to mutagene's Shadow of the Beast II remix.

(* Nice that basic smileys don't change line distance)

By the way, Deadly Cookie just released an awesome Shadow of the Beast II remix over on amigaremix.com. Not perfect but very cool.

Pirx also released a Beast remix. About to hear...

Minimalistic? I'd call it boring.
And I don't wanna say here what I think about sampled "guitars"!

Yeah, we can't all have guitar players stashed in our closets.

I think that based upon my guitar playing skills, I should move *them* to the closet and get the C64 out again.

My mind is free enough to do guitar songs with synths in it and vice versa.
I even use the guitar to create synth sounds. But vice versa it's not possible, at least not in the way of "Shadow of the guitar". So we all have to live with the fact that I still hate sampled guitars - cos they simply do not sound like guitar.
Or the other way around: Why does everybody use piano samples? Because they sound like a piano. Period. :)
Yeah, we can't all have guitar players stashed in our closets.
Absolutely right. I do not forbid anyone to use guitar samples, I just don't like them.
I wish I could play and record drums in my studio. I can't and so I'm forced to use samples and loops. What's the problem?

I hate how guitar samples sound too. The problem is that from the Amiga days, the samples I've heard are taken from one guitar note (or chord) and simply raised or lowered in pitch. This sounds completely unrealistic :)

I can play guitar a bit so at least I can create a convincing guitar part. I just wish that my keyboard skill was better so that I could create lines like I do on the guitar. Guess I need more practice ;)

Instead of complaining about sampled guitars - make something better and please the crowd.
