You won't believe how many tunes are influenced in such a fashion. Sometimes, I believe it's truly inspiration and simply "in the back of one's head" when composing - so without knowing it, you'll end up composing something very similar to what you heard yourself. It depends.

It really scared me when I started noticing how much stuff crept into Huelsbeck's music (bless him!) and even well known pop bands like Roxette seemed to copy stuff like crazy. I don't think it's intentional. We're all human. Sometimes, people tell me that my track "Dawn" on my page is a rip off of Terminator. To tell you the truth, today I strongly feel that I took parts of one of Apidya's 2nd level tracks. I noticed that 2 years later...

Oh, Rafael, I do think it's a surprise.
The point is that 'masters' heavily copy others work. I am not talking about the notes you keep in mind beiing inspired by that next work, I am talking about the notes, expression and instrumentation done in little different environment. The first example is harmless against the second and third. So in this way it's a heavy surprise for me, comparable to the day I was first scrolling through HVSC and recognized that Hubbard did it so much.
