Any Pixies fans in?

Don't know if this is a worthy topic, but the Pixies have reformed!

I don't quite know how to take this news. They are my favourite band of all time, yet I never got into them until a couple of years after they split. I feel kind of elated, but also kind of worried. Anybody care?

well, the pixies are one of the best alternative bands...
'monkey gone to heaven' and 'where is my mind' are two of my
alltime favorite songs...

i hope that frank doesn't lost his abilities to write great indie-songs....

As a massive Pixies fan (they are my favourite band) I have mixed feelings about them reforming. As I'm old enough to remember them first time around, and indeed having lost my voice for two days after seeing them live at Manchester G-Mex Centre in 1991, which was a simply superb gig, there is part of me that thinks how great it would be to show lots of crap indie pop kids who are the true masters (but they just wouldn't get it or understand, mind you!) and have them back rocking the house live.

The reform might be for a limited time only though, due to the release of a DVD with all the videos to the singles on and a live gig, and (yet another - bah!) a Greatest Hits compilation thing. Whether or not they'll be able to stand each other enough to last more than a few months on the reform trail is a great big unknown.

Although part of me is excited, I'd also be worried that if they didn't achieve their really high standards live, and I went to see them, I'd really be so disappointed and maybe think less of them than I did beforehand. Better the devil you know, so to speak. I've seen this before when bands have reformed and it sometimes really worked so disastrously that it made me angry inside.

There's a great quote from the movie 24 Hour Party People where Rob Gretton explains to the punters that if Tony Wilson doesn't bring back his show So It Goes, it would remain a legend for what it was. Sometimes I feel like that about the Pixies: they split at their virtually unstoppable peak and their status was legendary for most indie/rock fans ever since, and it was the right way to do so.

He never did. Ever heard any of his solo albums (mostly with band Frank Black and the Catholics)? If you haven't, then you've really missed out. Forget what the music press say (they seem to have some sort of vendetta against him over here for carrying on post-Pixies) and listen to them: I can particularly recommend Teenager of the Year, Black Letter Days, Dog in the Sand and the most recent release, Show Me Your Tears. All show a very different side to Charles Michael Kitridge Thompson IV..

Ifadeo, if you can, get hold of a copy of Dog in Sand. By far my favourite Catholics albums. Blast Off is pure, hip wigglin rock'n roll. It will make you want to dance, like it or not. And if you haven't heard them yet, check out the Breeders, Kim Deal's band.

Anyway, I heard they were going to do some new songs. This makes me slightly more nervous and a little wierded out too. New Pixies songs? What can we expect?

Actually, Frank Black's stuff is great. If you didn't check out some of his albums. you'd miss his re-done version of "Velvety" this time with lyrics and just as rocking.

As for Bowie's version of Cactus, go to my web page (see bottom of my post) and go to the music section, and the top 10 covers. Says it all.

Especially considering the fact the guitar riff from the Breeders' track "SOS" on their "Last Splash" album was sampled by the Prodigy for "Firestarter." Say no more.

Got that album on now actually, top stuff. Almost as good as the version of "Do You Love Me Now?" that Kim Deal did with J.Mascis from Dinasour Jr.
