As this will be only my 2nd trip to UK ever, I am a bit scared to go, especially because I don't have any travel companions :-)

I should arrive in Stanstead airport at 17:15, September 10.

I've no clue how to get to London, the designated pub, I'm just gonna hop on a bus and hope for the best.

If someone has a tip or two, please let me know! thanks!

I wasn't able to get a hotel from Sunday till Monday morning, so I'll try to 'talk my way into bed' with someone in the pub. :-)

Really, I just need 200x100 cm of FLOOR!, then I can sleep anywhere.

If anyone wants to offer me a bed, let me know.

I need to be at Stanstead airport on September 13, 11:00 o clock or something, that's well 2 hours before takeoff.

If you also have a tip how to get there from the Hostel that PPOT uses, let me know.

I hope for some info before I leave, because that can maybe take some of my nervous tensions away.. I NEVER flied before! LOL

Thanks for any help!

OK, first make sure you've got enough cash!

If you want to go the scenic route, hop on any "National Express" bus to London Victoria. Then walk to Victoria train station, and get on the underground. (there should be signs). To get on the London Underground you need to buy a "zone 1-4 off peak travelcard". It should cost less than £5. There are machines which sell them, or you can go to the ticket desk and show them this email. Victoria station also has a good visitor centre to get maps and stuff, some free.

Get the victoria line to Green Park: the Victoria line is deep underground. At Green Park (it's only one station down the line), change to the Piccadilly line (walk through the subways) and go to Russell Square. Then, find the "Astor Museum Inn" or the road it's on, on the map at the station. Look up the address on the website. Check in by saying you're part of my party. It's likely I'll have given them your name.

To get back to Stansted, the best thing would be to go to Liverpool Street Station, and get the Stansted Express train. It takes 45 minutes. Liverpool Street is on the Circle and Central lines.

The pub is near the Piccadilly Circus tube line, which is on the same line as Russell Square.. If you get to the pub, say my name as I'm there as having a guest list.

Thanks Chris.

I don't plan on any scenic tours, I just want to 10 GOTO "Piccadilly" as fast as possible, then I will prolly eat some food and just enjoy the show there until 20:00 when other people I know arrive.

Maybe I'll even get hammered before the whole thing starts :-)

I did try the subway last time and found it easy to use, much easier than the Paris Metro.

I'll bring my cell phone, but I'm not sure how it works over there..
My number is 40869234, so that's +4540869234 if you call me while I am here (DK). Dan Gilgrass sent me an SMS and that worked, but I have no clue how these phones work abroad.

You might want to check that your mobile operator supports "roaming" as if it doesn't then you will get f-all when you get here.

I think there are some people arriving around the same time on the Friday so you might want to hook up with them.

Yeah, it supports roaming.

If someone wants to, please drop your phone nr to me, because I only have that of Dan Gilgrass, and he's out of net at the moment.
(could sms him offcourse, but..)

Here's some useful info:

train from Stansted (only 45 minutes, but EXPENSIVE! 24 pounds for return-ticket!)

http://www.stanstedexpress.com/

bus from Stansted (cheaper (15 pounds, but 90 minutes -bluergh!)

And maps of London: here

The buses go from Stansted to Victoria. There's loads of them. Then you have to get the circle line round to Barbican and walk, in theory.

Mind you, you're cutting it a bit fine. I'd just go for the Stansted Express option and pay at the time. You can do that no problem.
