Moon Patrol (Parafondo Mix)

Post by are be »

Hello to all!

This is my second remix to be presented to C64 Remixes.

Moon Patrol (Parafondo Mix)

Download link below:

http://www.neoxema.com/downloads/mdl_track01.mp3

This remix has a mixture of elements that purposely draws from TOOL’s - Parabol and two Goblin tracks used in Dario Argento's classic horror flick Profondo Rosso.

It's quite a departure from your typical remix as it evolves into something totally new, but still retains the essence of the original Moon Patrol theme.

All comments welcome.

It sounds really nice... You have some great passages in the song..
I also like the build up of this tune..
It could easily have been used in some kind of sci-fi video demo thing.. :D

Nice work here... It's also a refreshment to all those "standard" remixes..

It has a really great mood, nice sound textures and does never get boring.
For me it has big flaw though: The drumloop in the first part does not groove at all, the timing does not fit or something. I think the snare comes too late every second time - that kills the groove.
I could think of a red face without this issue. :)

This remix isn't good.

it's simply fuckin' awesome

i love it. period.

btw: it's not "parafondo" (a word that sounds quite funny in italian) but profondo. Just like "profondo rosso".

:)

Nah, i found it to be a nice trip-hop touch.

Wowie! Thanks for the positive feedback so far. I wasn't sure how people would receive this remix. Looks like those many hours of mixing has payed off. =)

btw: it's not "parafondo" (a word that sounds quite funny in italian) but profondo. Just like "profondo rosso".

"Parafondo" is a combination of two words: Parabol + Profondo which is deliberate syllabus on my behalf.

For me it has big flaw though: The drumloop in the first part does not groove at all, the timing does not fit or something. I think the snare comes too late every second time - that kills the groove.

Yes your quite right about the timing. Except the problem lies in the bass guitar not the snare. A friend supplied me with his raw bass guitar riff and to fix it would of required me to remove individual gaps between the notes, then tweaking each note to align with the 90bps timing. It's something that would've taken me a while to do with a wave editor. But I figured I'd leave it ruff' n’ raw to give the track a little bit of character even though technically it's flawed.

Keep those comments coming…

Ok, but it's derivative from an italian word.

In italian "Para" = something like "shield it".

"Fondo" could mean various things: bottom, luck, ass.

The meaning of the word "parafondo" would be something like "an accessory to shield your ass" :-)

Cheers.

Well, that's what I do everytime if I'm forced to use imprecise played tracks. :) I think it's worth the time.

Sorry, I have to object: This is nothing technical at all, this is something about feel; the loop and the bass do not "feel" right together. I'm not the one who tries to detect inaccuracy in timing with a metronome. I love lived played drums, I love human feel and groove.

Quite a cool atmosphere. I hope your pursue remixing a lot more, you clearly have talent. 8) I think you'd do a great job at remixing Platoon, just as Feekzoid did. (No, that's not a hint, honest!) ;)

Or simply "Covering yer ass" or a derivative there of.
