Commodore Remix

Hey guys

I built my own Urei 1176 LN compressor, one of the best vocal/bass compressor/limiters IMO. It's based on the schematics by Jakob Erland. I'd like to share a few pics of the finished machine, completed today. Hope you enjoy it if you're a bit of a gearslut.

Somewhat nerdy stuff but quite fun to build your own machine. Next plan is to do the classic Pultec tube eq in 6 months.

Thanks, it was a lot of hard work. There's great satisfaction in building stuff yourself, although I'm normally not much of a DIY'er.

I'm no gearslut but I know those Ureis are pretty hard to get
(especially since their factory blew up a few years ago or something)

I'm sure you could do it if you had someone answer your questions, like I had. Of course you need to have steady hands and lots of patience. A bit of logical sense helps too!

Hm, can't change pickups in a guitar.. maybe you don't have a chance after all, heh heh

Here's a little short video on the 1176 from UA. Mine has potentiometer ratio not push-buttons, but while I did buy parts for doing a nuke switch (the all button in trick) it's overrated, so I left it out.

I'm not much of a gearslut, but that it looks sooo sweet.

I love the "old", robust look.

If I attempted to do the same I'd probably end up setting the house, and myself on fire. And when I'd plug it in I'd probably cause an electical malfuction so massive it would lay half the town in darkness.

Come to think of it, it looks almost exactly like the compressor we used in the studio at my high school... Don't remember which brand it was though.

I'm impressed! I've got a vocoder from Paia in the wardrobe where it has been for five years now. The outlook for the coming five years is that it will probably stay there unless someone buys it from me...
