what was your first multi machine experience ? (link leads, modem, etc)

my first was 'midi maze' on the ST.
then 'Populous' again on the ST.
next was 'Falcon' on cross platform !!!
i had it on the Amiga and my mate, Gary, had it on the ST.

i was never beaten on Populous. . .

One of the first was Twin Tornado on BBC and C64, which I only saw once and never got the chance to actually play...

For me It would have to be Turn Based games on Local BBS's.

Later it was a Star Trek game at an Engineering University run on Unix servers.

It was Duke Nukem 3D and CivNet for me in LAN.

I'm a late entry in online multiplayer with Quake I... the Suicide Rocketeer Commando!

I think Nights of the Sky was one of the first things I played on the Amiga using a null-modem cable to hook up two 'puters. Either that or Nitro. Don't remember.

But the first thing I played for real in multiplayer was WarCraft and Duke Nukem on PC. Didn't own a PC back then, but Wolk's dad had a whole arsenal which we disposed of. :)

First LAN play for me was Stunt Car Racer on the Amiga. Very LAN... Otherwise it must be games like Quake, Micro Machines 2 and Big Red Racing :)

Modemwise it was Doom II.

Modem Wars for the C-64, by the same designer as MULE and Seven Cities of Gold. Completely brilliant game -- I still haven't found a modern multi-player game as compelling.

Oh, and IIRC, my dad once made a rudimentary chess game to be played over the phone line using the Bally Astrocade, which was an early console that had less than 1k RAM.
