MINIMIG - A working Amiga on a chip!

Post by d.a.wilson »

I suspect some of you already know about this beastie designed by Dennis van Weeren. For those who haven't discovered it yet - it's a complete working Amiga 500 on an FPGA using an SD card to run standard emulator .ADF images driving a VGA monitor with a PC mouse and keyboard. It's been quite a while since I've been so impressed with what was a home spun project. All of the original ASICs, including Agnus, have been implemented in a Spartan III FPGA. :o

Having seen some videos of this tiny thing running it seems to be remarkably compatible with the original hardware.

You can purchase fully built units:

Here is a video of one running:

I quite keen to know how the audio stacks up with the original A500 as the Amiga was known for having surprisingly low noise output stages (for a home computer).

Oh my! This is amazing!!

Unfortunately apart from reminiscing occasionally I don't really load up many Amiga games these days and when i do Amiga Forever 2008 which suites my needs perfectly :)

Nice to see the Amiga being kept alive like this.

A bit pricey for me, by the time this thing arrives on the other side of the planet, it will be a good $300-$350 Canadian.

But it would be cool seeing the old stuff running on an LCD Screen.
