He might be a famous C64 composer, but he's also a famous C64 programmer, having done one of my favorite games ever - Citadel.

Oh, and Hunter's Moon is also pretty darn good.

In my book, Martin Walker probably did the best Amiga music cover ever with his Speedball 2 cover. I'm sure I could not tell the difference if the game loaded on an Amiga but a C64 played the music!

(and it's a nice tune too -- btw, is Nation XII a "real" group or only Amiga musicians?)

after my information (read it a few years ago in music magazin) the
leading head of Nation XII was 'John Foxx' also known as founder of
Ultravox (remember Hymn, Vienna, The Voice...)

but he left Ultravox after a few years in 1981 and was replaced by
Midge Ure who was the founder of Visage (Fade to grey, Mind of a Toy...)

btw. John Foxx has his own Studio called 'The Garden' where Depeche
Mode did some recording sessions with Gareth Jones...

John Foxx did also some great solo albums, his biggest hit is maybe
the song 'Underpass'.....

Understatement. I love that game. I particularly liked the sound effects which almost sounded like human voices, especially the way he used the ring modulation to almost go "Hiya" as one of the effects.

Excellent Matt Gray tune in that one as well, especially the title theme, spooky but great.

The diary of a game feature in Zzap! 64 when he wrote Citadel was excellent stuff too, really gave you an insight into how it all came together.

Sadly, the game industry treated him badly and he won't talk about his 8-bit work to anyone :(

Im so gonna agree with Waz! Hunter Moon was one of the best games on the C64, yea its a shoot em up! but its original, challenging, great music and over 140 levels in one load (140? is that correct, I remember 148 if im not mistaken!!!!.) The whole thing oozes class!

I'll have to agree with you agreeing with Waz. Hunters Moon is nothing short of brilliant. I just think Citadel is that teensy bit better than it.

As for Hunters Moon - I recall the "Walkers Way" Diary of a Game mentioning that the levels only occupied 64 bytes(!!!) each. Brilliant.

It would be FAB to get him to the next BIT .................. I would certainly love to meet and chat to him.

Martin Walker ROCKS!

In light of what Waz just posted about MW having turned his back to the 8-bit days I don't think he's likely to show up at BITL.

I say let's get a lynch mob together and hunt down the twats that stiffed him.

Actually he seemed OK with the idea, but was on holiday at the time.

Nation XII was a collaboration between Tim Simenon (Bomb the Bass) and John Foxx. Seeing Bitmap Brothers used Tim Simenon's music in some of their other games this makes sense.

BTW Bomb the Bass was censored during the first golf war by the US government because of the name (no war like name were allowed), so there was talk of the Nation XII moniker sticking instead of Bomb the Bass for Tim Simenon.

I thought Richard Joseph did that :?:

Which - the best Amiga music (subjective opinion) - or the Speedball 2 music?

Oh btw, although STIL has nothing to say about it, isn't the music in Barbarian 2 some kind of movie cover? I get early Schwartzenegger emotions when I listen to it.

I thought so too. Didn't he collaborate with Nation XII for Speedball 2?
