Thanks for all the feedback. I am returning to this thread a few years later.
I have since acquired a Roland MT-32, and would like to do more. Maybe I should get a MIDI controller to control my MT-32, or just do softsynths.
Cheers!

Re: Hülsbeck Turrican pledge on KickStarter
Did anyone buy more than one perk set, like a second boxed set or anything, and be interested in selling me one? Unfortunately, I missed the Kickstarter campaign, and would like to have a physical copy, if possible, and some of the perks offered in addition to the digital download. Please contact me...

Re: Digital MIDI-capable synthesizer on the cheap !
I've done some reading, and I may start out with a Roland JD-800. Anyone have some experiences with this one and want to give some feedback?
Thanks!
Thanks!

SID sound spotting
I'm starting to hear more and more artists using SID chips to generate some awesome music. I've heard two tracks by some of my current favorite rock artists that have SID chip tunes (not necessarily ripoffs of existing tunes, I believe the tunes are original): Editors - In This Light and On This Eve...

Help remind me about a disk copying utility with cool music!
When I had my C64, I had a disk copy utility that programmed the 1541 drive to copy on it's own, without C64 intervention. It even played a really cool tune during the copy!
Anyone remember a copy utility that did this? Anyone have the music from it?
Thanks in advance! Cheers!

Re: Digital MIDI-capable synthesizer on the cheap !
Are standard computer-based MIDI sequencers unable to program the Micron? Or am I forced to use Alesis' specific software to program in that realm? My ultimate goal is to have a keyboard-based synthesizer that I can use for a potential audio engineering degree from local university (they require a m...

Re: Digital MIDI-capable synthesizer on the cheap !
I like those Yamaha SY series. However, after looking into it, I may get an Alesis Micron to start with, branch out to the Alesis Ion, as well as the older synths. I also want to get a Roland MT-32 for use in remixing, as well as playing retro DOS games (mostly from Sierra On-Line) that support it f...

Re: Digital MIDI-capable synthesizer on the cheap !
Yes, a sequencer with keys would be preferred. I'd like the capability of both, as well as MIDI connectivity for computer control.

Digital MIDI-capable synthesizer on the cheap !
I'm interested in some time this year acquiring a digital synthesizer to jump start my remixing career. I'd like some opinions on several models that I've picked out: [*] Yamaha DX-7 [*] Yamaha PSR-3000 [*] Yamaha SY-88 [*] Kurzweil K2000 Max I could justify spending right now is USD 250. What do yo...

At 05:47 describe the use of dissonance that Tony Banks uses with repeating the same phrase over a differing bass chord - is this a pedal point, or is there a better term to describe it?
Thanks in advance. Skål

Re: Help saving MySQL (urgent)
First thing's first - MySQL is already open source, under GPL. Second - wouldn't you rather that Sun be acquired by Oracle than IBM, who would definitely buy just to shut down Sun completely? I'm not concerned about MySQL as much... Oracle wants in on the action in the hardware scene, and is really ...
