Hollywood Poker & Hades Nebula

Post by Hille »

Some time before the celebration of the winter solstice, I uploaded three new remixes onto RKO...Took a hell of a time too, since I'm only on dial-up!

Anyway, in my own measly oppinion, two of the remixes were pretty good, and the last - well - was mostly for fun!

As it turns out, the two good ones were rejected  , and the crummy, for fun one was accepted.

I cannot figure out the reason why, but have finally taken the time to upload the remixes to my own site. So I'm posting links to them here, hoping that you'll enjoy them - and/or at least give me some clue as to why they were rejected by Jan...

The first is "Hollywood Poker Pro" by Chris Hülsbeck:

The second is "Hades Nebula Ingame" by Ben Daglish..."The Meason Accelerator" version:

Thanks for listening!

The RKO guidelines clearly states that SID+Drums remixes won't be accepted.

Granted. Although I have used a huge portion of the original SID in the Hades Nebula mix, I personally wouldn't call that SID+Drums. But maybe it is...Apparently you and Jan (and/or who ever else judges) think so.

But how about Hollywood Poker Pro then? I only use one tiny clip of the original SID. I know - it's played twice, but still...

There are a fair few of us who vote so you get a wide range of music styles and beliefs of what is questioned as sid+drums. As for Poker Pro it seems to me just a straight sid port with additional drums added...hence...sid+drums to me on that one. I cant actually remember what I voted on it as it was a while ago and as rko went down I cant check.

Hollywood is more of a "voices in SID replaced by other instruments", though I would have voted it a yellow smiley, since it's quite pleasant.

The other one isn't SID + drums either: it uses the SID percussion, but also some rather nice other lead instruments shadowing the SID lead, though it's heavily missing stuff in the bass, and hasn't got any ideas other than those in the SID, which is probably where the problem lies. Still quite nice though.

Edit: nice breaks in Hades Nebula, too.

Plus, just as with everything else in life there's good SID+Drums and bad SID+Drums.

Not that I'm commenting on Hilles tunes. A) because I can't remember them, and B) because the upload guidelines clearly states (well ... stated =)) that I don't comment on or elaborate rejection reasons.

Ask Santa for broadband this year. Or go visit some friends with broadband. Or upload it from work. Or get a friend who works at a place thats got broadband to do it. Or .... Well, you get the idea.

Special treatment for people on dialups? Whatever next - special treatment for people with no musical talent? :D

Uncalled for! I didn't ask for special treatment - I just mentioned that I only had dial-up. Of course, truth be told, it did add to my annoyment over having the tunes rejected...Oh well

finally got around to listening to the tunes. Well maybe there is a lot of sid, but its not just a SID+drums affair. I think it's very clever actually.

Prefer hades myself. At times both tunes suffer from being a bit thin, but generally they are quite nice.

edit: With more development i can hear really good things. :)
