i would say REASON is an easy tool, but i don`t like the built-in sequencer. for that i still use cubase.
some would say that reason costs too much, but you`ll get a good professionel workstation for that price.
there`s also a light version of reason.
just take a look on propellerheads homepage.

Orion is definetly the bomb, its my tool of choice and i have never regreted it. with the unlimited supply of VSTI plugins this baby rocks!
Take the Platinum version though, the pro version lacks some neat features.

WOOHOO - I was SO unaware of that program - DA AXMAN IS BACK !! lol ... weather or not i release any of my crap or not though is debatable, i doubt any of my old amiga discs work any more, but if they do ill hook the 1200 up to the pc network and rescue them for some serious updates

It does not 100% accurately convert/play other tracker files unfortunately, I relished the idea of re-recording my mod backcatalogue, but it has some issues with certain commands, worst being that it interprets some command as the noteplex (c64 arpeggio) making some of your work have bits seriously offkey. Its fixable tho. another problem is that they made a change to the way it handles VTSs at one point meaning that you cant use multiple VSTs in a single channel. I dont mean at the same time, but at all. eg in pattern 01 track 01 you would have a VST bass. But by pattern 02 track 01 you might have moved that bass off of track 1 to track 2 (as was so often the case in 4-channel mod writing. Well in the current version of renoise that VST would cease playing until it was moved back onto track 1.

Its a pain, especially in converting 4 channel mods. Worst case scenario when you used a single instrument accross multiple channels to create polyphony. Wont work with a VST. You would need to put all the notes in a single track. Its a downer unfortunately for us oldeskool mod writers tempted to convert work.

For original work thats Renoised from the ground up tho - it is the bomb.
