Audio Compression artifacts reduction
Hi all,
does anybody know a tool to reduce/remove compression artifacts from a previously compressed audio file?
Thanks in advance,
- Markus

1. Compressed = as in lossy compression, a.k.a ogg, mp3, wmf?
2. Compressed = as in using a compressor for standardizing the dynamics in a sound file?
The first one is kind of difficult. Try an exciter if the high frequencies are missing. If the mid-range is "wobbling", then I guess you're out of luck.
The second one you can fix with an expander, which is the opposite of a compressor. It will never be the same, unless you "ride the faders" manually, but that's a cruel way of destroying your spare time!

Prosoniq's "mixciter" or "voxciter".
Beware that voxciter is a mono plugin (without telling you), so you'll need to use two of them if you want to use the exciter part in it for a stereo pair.

Except that'll do funny things to your phase.. so not a solution I'd personally recommend.Pex `Mahoney` Tufvesson wrote:Prosoniq's "mixciter" or "voxciter".

Voxciter is nice on vocals though (hence the name), I esp. like the built in de-esser, since the sibilance always gets too loud with this exciter.
Mixciter, is that the same as Voxciter (from the same company) just for whole mixes??

I think mixciter is the exciter part, without the deessing and compressor-stuff. Anyway, I also think that mixciter handled stereo as well... Anyway, I guess there's info on Prosoniq's www-page for those that have the time for such leisure!

Thanks Pex, can't seem to find MixCiter though. Maybe it's PC only?
VoxCiter is now available for OSX, cool since I'm switching from 9.2.2 soon.

You're right, seems to be PC only:
http://products.prosoniq.com/cgi-bin/re ... il&refno=3
At 39 EURO, you won't find a better exciter for the PC!
