BIT takes too long ..

Post by Steve B »

any chance we/us/me/you could organise a non-bit get together ?

just a low cost meetup in a pub/club/house/barn/toilet on the M25/M6/A1M

between bits there is nothing.

between bits we should be having a drink together.
we should be playing paradroid or uridium or how do i double buffer this
we should be tinkering with new angles on 'monty' or thrust or poke yourself pervert!
we should have a regular meet up.
a monthly or bi-monthly thing to chat.

that do you think ?

Nothing devoted to the C64 anyway... though Retrovision makes a good alternative. Frankly RV frightens me a bit: far too much drinking and merriment. It can't be good for people ;-)

I've been thinking that it would be neat to do a Copenhagen meeting during spring/summer. Allegedly the one in Malmö was a success. No reason why you Britons should have all the fun to yourselves. =)

We were gonna do it a while back in Manchester but due to various things it fell through.

The prob is...should these meets be 64 related? how about just having some beers (getting pissed) and not botherng why you are there....just people who you know...grouped together by one factor having a good time!

i used to play a game called 'air attack' online. every so often about a dozen regulars would meet up for a few pints and a chin wag.
the idea would get mentioned on the noticeboard, a few people would throw in ideas for venues and times. after a few days the time and place would be agreed on and a rough idea of how many people would be there.

The Walkabout drinking-thingy in Brighton had very little to do with the C64, and everything to do with just hanging out with both veteran BITLivers and newbies (Makke and Larsec, I'm looking at you =)) ... I say it doesn't need to be scene related at all.

If the Manchester reunion that didn't happen showed us anything, it's that in order to get people from A -> B you need to give them a damn good reason to get off their arses. But once they're at B then they often enjoy the socialising as much as the reason they actually came: sometimes more so! :) It's just having the unmissable reason to make the trip. Strangely enough, meeting nice people doesn't seem to be a particularly good motivator on its own.

my point Jan, was that you have a common frame of reference to discuss without being looked on as a geek !! - theres loads of really nice folks around, but if u bang on about SID CIA Fat Agnus or Denise and Paula, you can guarentee the last 2 get attention and then loose attention just as fast when they realise they arent really girls youve slept with.

If you can talk fluid football or cars around here ur in. anything else and ur the git in the corner on his own.

My point then is yes, theres a lot a nice folks around, but when u can strike up a conversation with some1 who is on the scene and interested in what you have to say, its a lot easier... here test it out.. go into town, find a really nice friendly fella, and start chatting about XML or commodore revisions of the C64 (like C64G or C65) maybe the SX64 being the first colour portable, or the commodore having a native midi port ahead of Atari, or there being a stereo SID CBM, see how long the conversation lasts.
