Glad you did. I've had that since the day of release and got the limited edition with DVD (which has the video to IBEH incidentally).

I also saw him live at Manchester Evening News Arena on 22nd May. What a gig that was, the support Franz Ferdinand rocked, and as for Morrissey, he was simply superb, and played Smiths songs in his set as well. I did a diary entry about the gig (see the website link at the bottom of my post and click on diary, then May archives) which you might want to read to get a first hand impression.

Oh, and this review is essential reading, ifadeo:

As you listen to the album, be interested to hear what your fave tracks are. One of mine (obviously) is America Is Not The World. Too damn right!

And mine. I couldn't get three other blokes to get their pic taken outside Salford Lads club, so you'll just have to do with one I prepared earlier.. May 22, 1993 actually (Moz's 34th birthday)

I thought Irish Blood, English Heart was a dismal song when I heard it, and full of Moz's usual bull. I also hate it when people whinge about the UK when living the life of a tax exile in the USA. I think I'll stick with the more "living it real" Billy Bragg for my fix of pseudo-political music.

Two things to note:

1 - When Morrissey lived in the UK he wrote about the things that were wrong with this country ("Margaret on the Guillotine", "The Queen Is Dead" etc).

2 - On his new album is a song called "America Is Not The World" which lists many things wrong with the USA. Not least lines like:

"Well America, you know where you can shove your hamburger"
"America, your head's too big, and America, your belly's too big. I just wish you would stay where you is." and "where the President is never black, female or gay, and until that day, you've got nothing to say to me".

Damning enough? Definitely :)

I should add that I also like Billy Bragg and he's definitely someone who speaks his mind. I saw him at an Anti-Nazi League gig with Fred Gray in Platt Fields Park, Manchester, and Billy was on form. He even threw in "Sexuality" for good measure (top tune that one with completely nonsensical lyrics for the most part)

Bragg's A13 is pure genius.

As for Moz, I guess I prefer a little more subtlety in lyrics, such as Wire's observations on 1980s Thatcherite Britain in 1988's "A Bell is a Cup Until it is Struck".
