Ok who broke my IE!?

Post by Hacky »

I'm at my wits end, and as it was the remix.kwed.org site where I first noticed this happening, I'm going to post the info here in the hope that someone can help me, even though it's prob off topic.
:-/

My IE is changing .mp3 to .mpeg when downloading .mp3's off the remix.kwed.org, or any other site. Why I have no idea, and it's driving me nuts now as I have tried EVERYTHING short of formating, and I refuse to format Windows AGAIN to fix one tiny silly problem AGAIN!

HELP!<G>

Basically I right click 'save target as' any .mp3 file and when that IE download pop up dialogue thingy comes up, the file is the same except for the extension which IE has changed to .mpeg

How can this happen? Am I cursed or what?

Any ideas anyone?

Not installed Real Player recently, have you? That's the cause of that sort of thing. What you can do though is change the default behaviour for file extensions (Tools/Folder Options and then File Types within a Windows Explorer window). Delete anything to do with mpeg and next time it should ask you (hopefully).

RealOnePlayer is notorious for changing mp3 file extensions. I hate it!

Alternative: use Mozilla Firefox. It wees all over IE from a height and actually has features people want:

* pop up blocking by default
* smooth web-standards compliant browsing
* customisable, too. I use the pinball theme.
* small download and memory size

etc etc.

Oh, and sidplug works with it! :)

Just rename the file bud, ok so sumthin trashes the extention, but that doesnt change the content. It should still play, ive seen this happen with zip's before now.

Old Mozilla did that on *.jpg => *.jpg.jpeg and *.mpg => *.mpg.mpeg which was harmless but annoying
All is lost.

I've not installed RealPlayer but come to think of it perhaps it was iTunes that did it?

Let me play with it.

I shall install that browser too, sounds cool thanx.
