The interview they tried to stop...

Post by merman »

In 2002 I tried to get an interview with Press Play On Tape after their performance at Gossips. In the busy club, there was no time or space to do it.

In 2004 I tried to get an interview with the band after the gig ended, but with so many people to talk to, it was impossible. We agreed to do the interview by e-mail, so all the group could contribute.

The interview was to form part of the RETRO GAMER coverage of Back in Time Live 2004. I can tell you I was rather disappointed to find it had been cut from the finished article completely.

So, with apologies for the length of time this has taken to appear, and with thanks to LMan for giving me admin access (Merman goes mad with power...) here it is:

... and SLAY Radio doing a live interview with them right after the gig too.

Which reminds me... I REALLY need to get the live shows out there for download somehow.

Duh...

Nice reading there btw. =)

I still have the live shows on my FTP, cept i split the whole shebang down into individual tracks too, if you want them that is, if it helps. If you OGG them itll save on bandwidth too.

I think he means live shows generally rather than the BIT Live one. Unless that's what you meant... *confused*

Um. Yes. I meant live shows in general. Sorry for the confusion. =)

Solution coming up though, and its name is BitTorrent.

Merman: Will you continue to record and play live?
PPOT: Sadly we're nearing the age where our fellow Commodore 64 enthusiasts no longer _remember_ the Commodore 64... but as long as just a _few_ of them are still alive and haven't completely lost their hearing: YES, we will keep playing.
That's sad but quite true!

Thanks tony. For some reason my thread was hijacked, and I didn't get any feedback...

Thanks for your interview Andy: sorry I couldn't get it up myself ... (there's a comic feed line if ever I saw it)...

I think a general prod is in order though:

> I didn't get any feedback...
Complaining about lack of feedback is one of my pet peeves to see. If people were moved, they'll comment. If not, then they won't. Badgering them results in less-than-useful feedback. Yes, everyone's a consumer, and often they can't be bothered to do anything other than listen. Everyone here suffers from that at some time, so let's just accept it and either let threads die peacefully in their sleep, or bump them with positive statements, such as "hey, I'm removing the link in a day or two, so now's the final time to download my masterpiece", or "did anyone like the xxx in this?". If no one still replies, well, hey, maybe it wasn't as inspiring to them as it was to you. It happens. Pointing an accusing finger isn't going to make them feel any better about it. I don't think that the lack of feedback was due to the thread being hijacked. I think it was probably because it was nice and uncontroversial, read well, ruffled no feathers and was generally feel-good. Things like that don't really attract comment.

In general in a forum as soon as the thread turns to discussions about discussions then the thread is doomed anyway. Like this one!

Great interview btw. I especially liked the enthusiasm they had about BIT Live :)

In my experience as a reviewer in places including NTSC-UK, you get far more feedback if the people reading it didn't agree than if they do :P

Most of my reviews don't seem to garner a huge amount, so I take it that people like them heh...

Chris is right. During the years of remix64 the only feedback i got is infact when i ruffled a few feathers or was a tad controversal. Having a strong opinion (something i am accustomed to) on something results in feedback and descussion.

I wasn't having a go at anyone Chris, and I accept what you are saying.

Glad you liked the interview. I'm still annoyed by the fact it got chopped, even after the editor agreed extra words for the article.

Now all I need is the commission to write the piece on Back in Time Live 2006, and I'll be happy
