Last Ninja subtune 7

Ever since I heard The Dead Guys' cover of Last Ninja wilderness (subtune 7), I wanted to do my own.

So here's one with guitars and stuff. And overdrive.

Sorry for people who can't play ogg vorbis. (unless it's been rejected, it will probably appear on rko soon) And sorry if somebody gets offended by the solo. I usually hate when people add whole new parts to the original... my excuse, I guess, is that the arrangement at that point is losely based on the original.

I don't think you can upload ogg files on kwed but its great that you post the ogg version here, although a higher bitrate version would've been nice. The music sounds all-round good to my ear, if a bit "un-eventful" at times. I don't mind the solo as it spices up the remix. I'll let someone else provide detailed analysis.

Thanks for the reply:) I submitted it as mp3 to R:K:O, but am providing it as ogg here, because.. well, i like the format, and my ISP wont let me host mp3. I suppose I could upload it with a higher bitrate,.. but the compression artifacts are nearly inaudible? I would compare the quality of ~80kbps ogg with 192kbps mp3, and even then the ogg artifacts are much more "musical".

One of my fave themes from Ninja.

Think this is done really well, very meaty sound. If I would say anything was missing it would be a feeling that some chords of somekind at the end, mebbe played by some pad or strings might've given a nice fusion with the excellent guitar work.

But hey! I like pads and strings, so I'm bias ;)

Didn't thought that Last Ninja could offer much more after Puffy64 pulled off his stunt but your version proved me wrong.

, but I don't hear any artifacts in decent encoded 192kbps mp3.
Don't have any experiences with ogg though.

Thanx Exo, quite interesting tests. But this kind of tests start getting really interesting if they include uncompressed audio and people rate it inferior to other formats

As said already I dont want to debate either, but I think MP3pro is stunning at lower bitrates versus OGG and MP3.

I use it on my own streaming radio broadcast for my gaming cronies @24kbit and 40kbit. I do the 24kbit for the modem guys, but didnt feel the need to go above 40kbit for the high quality stream since it sounds great. (And I only have a wee bit of bandwidth to play with at the mo anyway)

MP3 Pro is quite good. I haven't seen any tests of it though. It would've been nice to have it in the afforementioned test.

Its a very very weak association. Satriani uses a very cool riff (or whatever, I don't know the term) to start off a solo guitar ride. It sounds really raw and cool. The beginning of your solo is quite similar. Its just lasts a few seconds - really its just a note. Since there is no inspiration I'll still give you a link so you may explore it if you have the desire to do so. The track I'm referring to is called "Up in the Sky". The album is called "Crystal Planet", as mentioned before.

There are previews of the tracks but I don't know if the relevant section of "Up in the Sky" is previewed and if it is, it probably doesn't do it justice with the bit resolution of the preview. Nevertheless, there you go.
