SID / Remixes needed for promo

Post by Jan Lund Thomsen »

Eyup!

I'm having a promotional teaser produced to spread the word about SIDs and C64 remixing, and thus lure new people into the fold, either as consumers or creators. The voice-over part of it is more or less finished, and we now need to decide which tunes to incorporate excepts from.

What I need is this:

* a SID
* another SID + a remix of it.

The tricky part is that I'm looking for SIDs that will work equally well for the die-hard SID fan who has no idea the tunes are being remixed as well as the people who forgot that they ever owned a C64 and just need some reminding. As for the remix we need something that will have the broadest possible appeal get as many people as possible instantly hooked and dying to check out more tunes.

Any suggestions?

Remember, we're talking about the bigger picture here, so they don't need to be on your personal favorites list. I could give out the number of intended listeners for the promo, but it would only make you dizzy. :D

A) A couple of minutes. Possibly less. The voice-work has been written but not recorded yet.
B) Sound
C) See b. :D

For the SID+Remix part I've been thinking about these ones:

* Paperboy + Dead Guys' peaperboayh mix (or the SID80s one from St. Lukes)
* Comic Bakery + PPOTs album version (if the guys let me use it :))
* Pimplesqueezer + Reyn's cover from Nexus 6581-II.
* R-Type + Lagerfeldts Doppelgänger remix.

The 'stand alone' SID needs to be something with a high nostalgia factor that virtually everybody who owned a C64 will recognize. My first ideas was Sanxion, Delta, Last Ninja or one of the Ocean Loader tunes.

My first thougt here is Last Ninja. All the people I know that have ever used a C64 are familiar with the level 1 tune.

Personally I think the opening of Wizball should be easily recognizable, if enough people actually know it. You could mix it with that brilliant, dancey Tonka remix :)

WOTEF, IK/IK+ should also ring alot of bells. Gjosts'n Goblins, Bomb Jack, Arkanoid, Turbo Outrun, Stormlord... Oh, use Stormlord, and that amazing italo pop remix by N-Joy!

I guess the nostalgia's all about what games people played way back then... Oh, and by the way - in my experience arpeggios are often a big turn-off for people hearing their first ever SID tune!

When i think back and remembers the c64 music time i think of:

WOTEF, IK+, Re-Bounder, Delta, Wizzball, Arkanoid II, Armalyte, Last Ninja, Monty on the run, Auf widersehen monty, Sanxion, Bomb Jack, Boulder Dash, Commando, Rambo II, Comic Bakery, Crazy Comets, Cybernoid II, Frantic Freddie, Giana Sisters, Green Beret, Human Race, Nemesis the warlock, Parallax, Warhawk.

Of the above tunes i mostly remembers WOTEF (what else lol) :)

I would also say Last Ninja, any of em, Ocean Loader (boz' version) and perhaps Sanxion (Makkes album version if you are allowed to use it)

Formula One Simulator and Quedex. Both very catchy... Shame no one has a remix of them :-/

Oops... Wrong thread ;)

Hiyas Chris,

Looks like I was too specific when doing the search on RKO, "Formula One Simluator" rather than "Formula 1 Simulator". I'll have a listen to that later today. As for the Quedex one...

Promo's all done now (thanks Marcel). Wound up using bits of the Crazy Comets SID and Glider Rider from Makkes forthcoming album. Submitted it to a couple of places, so now all I have to do is wait for the hordes to arrive. :D

The groupies will have to fight their way through the geeks fighting over you first. :wink:
