Julian Gollop's at it again

Post by Jan Lund Thomsen »

Sure, it's the umpteenth remake of it, but at least they're going back to the roots this time. The original Rebelstar on the Speccy predates even Laser Squad.

There's an interview with Julian Gollop at http://gameboy.ign.com/articles/626/626717p1.html ("The closest thing to a GBA we have programmed is probably the ancient, but excellent, Commodore 64 8-bit computer.") and the official product page is at http://rebelstar.namco.com/

Can't wait to have a go at it. I've been craving some form of handheld Laser Squad since I got my first Palm Pilot back in '97. =)

The Rebelstar graphics kind of reminds me of the Escape from the Planet of the Robot Monsters graphics on the Amiga. :)

It's not full speed yet, the frameskip's a bit of a pisser on anything quick... but all the same, it's a smeggin' Amiga in my hand :D

Can't wait for hardfile support so I can bung my Workbench install on there. DPaint and LightWave 3.0 on the PSP? GIMMEH!

Like dat. Not exactly quick enough for a good game of, EG, Exile, but plenty for ickle bits of buggrin' about - and a lot nicer than the faux-mobile-phone-keypad-pseudo-text-message-entry shite that's PSP Standard.

Ooh, excellent!

I've been a huge fan since the Lazer Squad times, trying to find similar games whenever I could. Some have been quite nice (I actually bought a PC pretty much only to play the recent WWII game Silent Storm) but still not enough. Some other promising turn based games have been Pathway to Glory and the upcoming Pirates-like High Seize on N-Gage.

I'm planning to get the deadly (but small) combination of GameBoy Micro and iPod nano on my trip to the U.S. in November. Can't wait, maybe the Rebelstar will be out by then too :)

Wow.. Before I jump to conclusions here.. There's an Amiga/C64 emulator for PSP? Or did I completely miss the point?

Edit: Indeed there is.. It's decided then. I need a PSP.

PSP is too expensive at the moment I will wait till the next handheld comes out than I'll get the PSP.

Just to give you an Idea. I'm buying a GameBoy Advance SP sometime this week.

I've had a Japan-imported PSP for around six months and I've played about two times with it. It's awesome technology, but totally unpractical to use: it's too big to carry in a pocket, the battery doesn't last long enough to be useful and 90% of the games at the moment are total crap.

As for the geek factor of emulation, I'd love to have a 100% working UAE on it, but since I haven't even seen 100% working UAE on a desktop computer I'm not holding my breath. As for hacks that I'd love to get, the ScummVM for Nintendo DS beats pretty much anything: http://scummvm.drunkencoders.com/

UAE is getting better. I don't ask for perfection, I ask for it to be playable. That's all I want... :)

Actually, I want a hardfile, and DPaint IV and LightWave 2.0 on there. But I'll settle for playable :D
