My Complete Review Of the Bitlite weekend (from my eyes
My Complete Review Of the Bitlite weekend (from my eyes
Ok lets start at my arrival in manchester:
Instant culture shock at the amount of multi-racial people!!! (We dont have many up in perth y'see!!)
After a couple of minutes wait, my phone rings 'areet ste, where are ya lad?' says a strange english voice....why its PEEKNPOKELEE!!! The fine young chap picks me up from the bus station and drives me to the hotel, which is where the fun starts, i've arrived to early (theres other reasons why i cant get my room but I wont go into that) so I go and wait in the bar, and there I meet a very friendly approachable dutch bloke by the name of Reyn Ouwehand (better known as reyn owweeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnn (copyright boz 2005)) and we have a good long chat about his remix work, asian legends, bass, his other work, the weekend just yer general guff, then we go get our rooms as we were both in need of a sleep.
So I had a nice kip, then some friends phone to say they are in the bar at my hotel...ok...time to meet em again, on my way through I meet 4 people at the reception - Meester Boz (seen him afore, nuthin new) Meester Skeetz (seen him afore, nuthin new) Mr Donne (at last!) and Mr Slaygon ('es tall isnt he!!!). So after they check in, we all agree to meet in the bar later..this is where the fun begins - after a wee chat and a bite to eat with my other friends (Rockwaldo, Dungeon-Dave, Sir-Lans,D) they head back to their hotel and I join the other tables, which start to fill up quite quickly. Neil Carr....Dan Gillgrass.....[Trooper]......Chappers (what a ponce!).....Bog and mrs Bog....Andreas Wallstrom and Mrs Wallstrom....ziphoid.....markie....and not forgetting some guy called Rob Hubbard (whoever he is!!)
So the drinks get knocked back, what a great evening (blimey did I get drunk??) and Tas (neil) and Dan (dan) buy lots of bottles of becks at last orders to take back to their room, where I am invited. So off we stagger to room 19.....me, dan, neil, chappers and trooper. Now I wont say too much about what went on in that room but theres video footage somewhere and Dan cant remember me being there!!!!
So I eventually head back to my room which I am sharing with marcel, who is sitting watching tv until he decides to fall asleep...for some reason I didnt sleep that night, possibly due to the walls trying to eat me or the noxious chemicals being BRAPPED!!! out from marcels arse all night
That was friday...
Saturday...
This was a long but extremely enjoyable day.
Myself, Skitz,Boz and Marcel head to the venue at around 9.15am (many thanks to skitz for letting me tag along and INSIDE his car), Ben arrives at about 10.20 thinking he was late..but not to worry ben theres still no sign of mark knight or rob hubbard!!! Not until nearly 12pm do they show up and Rob looked WRECKED (note to EVERYONE - dont go back to marks room, god knows what he did to Rob )but eventually rehearsals get going and I sit back and relax, and occasionally wander through to the other room, where I once again meet Kenz and his lovely wife Natz and many other people whos names escape me (you know who you are).
Later on in the day (cant remember what time) I have a little walk with one chris abbott to morrisons and we have a nice little chat about the scene and the event and the fuck-up of the dvd (useless buggers!!) Then its back to the venue, so I listen to more rehearsals, do some mingling eat some more cheese sandwiches and nick some bits of pizza while no one was looking (crafty old me!) and by now people are beginning to wonder if MJ Hibbett and his band are ever turning up...but they do, with about 45 minutes to spare, so they have to rehearse in front of the crowd who are waiting for the 20 minute dvd preview.....(which was cool)
And now the gig....
MJ Hibbett and the validators...
Who are these guys?? I've never heard them before and to be completely honest I thought they were rubbish...didnt fit in with the rest of the evening at all (who at a retro gig REALLY wanted to hear about him attending a gay pride march)All everyone wanted to hear (especially Bog) was Hey Hey 16k, so when they were done I was glad..
PPOT (3 members-acoustic)
Excellent....these guys should do acoustic more often, even without trauma and ulff it was brilliant, I remember there being a warhawk in there somewhere (correct me if im wrong) but they were really good, and could easily have replaced MJ Hibbett....
Mark 'Madfiddler' Knight and Rob Hubbard
Well, what can you say about these two....except possibly....BRILLIANT!!!!
Everyone on the scene loves ANYTHING rob hubbard does, and when you combine him with the superbly talented mark knight, you've got a surefire recipe for success.....I think it may have been the highlight of many peoples night
SID 80's
Well.....do I really need to say anything?? Do I really??? EXCELLENT as always....Jeremy on the Bass was superb and I even noticed a nice bit of slap bass now and again (Being a mark king fan, I find slap bass very interesting) the 5 hours rehearsal paid off, every tune was brilliantly played, Bens erm....can i call it singing??(LOL) was not off key but he's no visa roster And marks fiddling (oo-er) was simply brilliant, Jon really let himself go on the acoustic guitar - his facial expressions were awesome, Ben again played a mean old flute and andreas did a fantastic percussion...
A fantastic gig by all means and I'd like to thank everyone involved, and a special mention to a certain Mr Gillgrass and Mr Carr for slapping me about the head many times after the gig just to add to their amusement..did I really get hugged by NEIL CARR??? Yes folks I really did......
THE END.......
