What to do ?

Hi !

I have finished a new remix which has a duration of 07:30 minutes.

Encoding to 256 kbit gives a file size of 15 MB.
Encoding to 192 kbit gives a file size of 12 MB.
Encoding to 160 kbit gives a file size of 10 MB.
Encoding to 128 kbit gives a file size of 8 MB.

I can hear the ones saying "to low quality(kbit)" and the others "to big filesize"

.

So what to do ? Uploading 2 files ? Or a compromise of with 160 or 192 ?

192, using a good encoder like Lame.

Hi Markus.

Have you tried using Lame (or another) encoder with a Variable Bit Rate? This (usually) gives the best quality to filesize ratio.

With Lame, a tune this length will probably come out at around the 8mb mark, but with quality comparable to the 256kbit option

Due to workflow I am using the integrated MP3 encoder from Steinberg's CuBase. I'll give LAME a go tonight and see what happens

I usually don't use variable bitrates, there are still some players which can't handle them very well (including my car radio)

I always avoided VBR since Windows Media Player Version 7 does not support it. And there are still many,many people using WMP instead of WinAmp or whatever. (I use WinAmp and it always drives me insane you can not save files. Why the heck they do not support this?) I do not know if newer version of WMP support VBR. Anyone knows this ?

A 15MB file is not really a problem - everybody in the entire world should have broadband these days and so that only takes 3 minutes!

Not everybody. Three months ago Rob Hubbard was still in analog world, most of my friends are still. So I try to find an allround solution, if possible.

Really? Never had a problem myself (including my 3 year old Phillips MP3 CD walkman crappotastic thing)

Other option is FHG MP3 @ 128 kbit...

160 is a good compromise usually. VBR is ok.

Well, it will end up with 10MB and 192k and LAME.
