Chances are no-one's going to register the domain anyway, so you could just let it lapse and pick it up again in a few months.

Who came up with the idea of having .uk domains split into further subdomains must have thought they had a good reason, because to everyone else (ie "me" :)) it just seems like an excuse to be able to have multiple companies fighting it out with multiple registration entities.

(Not that I know how things actually work in the UK, domain-wise. I'm just speculating.)

I don't care much for national domains, what does it matter. I just use .info. I've also wondered about the point of splitting things up like that when noone else does it.

And me for my two sites, the one you'll know: http://www.zawtowers.org.uk/ - it was really cheap with UKReg, and they'll host it themselves if you want to pay them enough, or just act as a redirector. I've had no problems with them and I got all the paperwork from Nominet to say I'm the official domain owner.

Might be worth registering with them once Nominet take the name down, Kenz?

Kenz you could renew your name as http://www.binaryzone64.co.uk
It is available at http://www.123-reg.co.uk.
It will cost you around £8 for 2 years :D

So revamp the site and re-launch as binaryzone64.co.uk

I'm very glad your back online Kenz! :D
Though for my interest I looked up binaryzone.co.uk, it says "Renewal required" so just maybe you could get the domain back later.

I've been recently investigating the world of domain name and host purchasing.
I've learnt that it is a popular misconception that you OWN a domain, you actually LEASE it.

ICANN rules state that the latest you can even try a transfer of a domain to another domain registrar company is 5 days before expiry (an automated lockdown process). Ofcourse I'd imagine your domain registrar company would spam the living shit out of to renew it. After the expiry date, I believe a grace period exists which is somewhat misleading too. I Initailly thought it was 30 or something days but then I read it has more to do weither your hosting is paid for and the domains active DNS propogation. Then it will be unparked and sold off to the highest bidder (I guess).

Please correct me if I'm wrong (I'm still learning).

Hey Kenz, I've run a few SQL updates, so all occurrences of binaryzone.co.uk on Remix64 and the messageboard should be replaced with the .org domain. (Except in this thread)...

Let me know if you spot any remains... :)

Kewl - cheers LMan, I'll keep my peepers peeled for any broken links.

I've started work on a download page for all the BZ disks in the first BZ Catalogue update - hopefully that will be online soon. :)

I had a similar upfuck with my domain earlier this year. It made me feel very stabby indeed.

Nominet are bastards. The people who pawn domain names for Nominet are even worse.

Bad sideeffect of domain change: moving everything from remix64.phatsites.de to remix64.com cost us dearly as the google page rank of the phatsites URL was much higher than the .com one, and there's no way to transfer it to the new URL. So I had phatsites erased from the google index completely...
