Computer '95 - Interview with Chris Hülsbeck

Post by PARALAX »

Hi, all.

Long time not seen but nice to be back again.:)

During resorting my CD-Collection from Remix64 and other Projects I found an Interview I made in 1995 with Chris Hülsbeck for a school magazine I worked at this time with some of our class. It was a nice Project where we collect informations abount new games, Projects and Future Plans about Amiga Technologies.

To write our articles later I had the job to interview the most important Peoples at the "Computer '95" in Cologne, so I record following people:

- Chris Hülsbeck (I don't think I must say something more...) ;)
- Erik Simon (Main Programmer - Blue Byte)
- Peter Molyneux (Creator of Populous, Magic Carpet, Black or withe etc.) - in English
- Florian Stangl (Famous editor of a german PC Magazine called "PC Player" (1993-2001))
- Petro Tschytschenko (Former Managing director of Amiga Technologies)

An old Photo I made from Chris after the Interview. I forgot to remove the photo corners before scanning, sorry.

As some of the interviews are distributed on several different CD's which I'm sorting at the moment, I only offer the Chris Hülsbeck Interview for now. It's (unfortunately) only in German, sorry. But I think some german users here will help you or simply ask me.;)

I think some of my questions was really embarrassingly when I listen it now...even 10 years later and maybe I've blamed myself a bit athough I didn't felt so during the conversation.

Download or listen it here: http://www.copypsx.de/(name removed)/chris.mp3

I will add the other interviews later if you like. Sometimes it's very interesting to see what's happened with the promisses some people made there, especially the Petro Tschetschenko Interview.

Have fun and enjoy it.:)

It's of course a cool thing and nice of you to share it. It being in German does however make it pretty hard for most of us to apprechiate.

My German sucks even on a good. So unless the interview goes along the lines of the following, I'm not likely to understand much.

- Guten Morgen, Herr Heine!
- Guten Morgen, Frau Jakob!
- Wo is das Rathaus?
- Hier gleich rechts.

And if that was to be the case, the interview would be pretty damn boring. ;)

I've downloaded it though, and will probably have a listen...though I doubt I'll get much of it.

I just asked him when he's staring making music and he answers (a bit laughting): Since I'm six years.

Then he asked whats his first C64 Song and he answered: Shades, especially made for a Computer magazine which he had won.

Then the silly question whether game industries have demand him...he simplay said that he has write to Rainbow Arts for making music for their games and they took him immediately.;)

Furthermore I ask about his future plans and whether he wants to break the "Media Control Charts" with his Dancefloor & Techno Productions and he said: Yes, naturally...who don't want it?;)

He also said that the record label was sucking with his Album "Rainbows" when he tried to reach the Album Top100 in germany.

Then he talked about his future Productions for Sony Playstation and Sega Saturn and that he don't compose for Amiga any more. He think that PC's and consoles will be running parallel (There are fans of consoles and Fans of PC's and he got right up to now).

And last but not least his favourite games on Amiga and PC:

Amiga: The Sentinel (was it ever released on Amiga???)
PC: Descent (Maybe the reason for the very silimar Tunnel B1 job?)

The other questions was....really to silly to translate but I think it's the most important for now.

I will post the next interview after christmas and I think it will be the short interview with Peter Molyneux who tried to faking me a bit with his plans of "Magic Carpet 3" which should be released in 2001(!).:D

Remember that we had 1995 when I record the interviews.;)

By the way: Chris is still active and even for mobile phones. He create the mobile version of Giana Sisters which sounds very different from the Original. I read following Text in his news section at http://www.huelsbeck.com :
July 1st 2005: It's been quiet for a while now but that doesn't mean nothing is happening. My work schedule is pretty busy, but as usual in our biz, everything is top secret until the time is right. I've been also working on new material in my spare time, most notably Giana Sisters for mobile phones as can be seen here! This is not a bland remix of the old stuff, but brand new music by the way.
