I found this nice service. It uses metadata fragments placed in the html/head element to geographically index pages, fx
(meta name="geo.position" content="54.91;9.79")
The service lets a user find pages of people in the proximity of a page owner.
GeoURL
It may be worth combining with PURL's.

edit: posting them with the fishhooks doesn't seem to work
Code: Select all
meta name="ICBM" content="4.6667,52.4833"
meta name="geo.position" content="4.6667;52.4833"
meta name="geo.placename" content="Beverwijk"
meta name="tgn.name" content="Beverwijk"
meta name="geo.country" content="NL"
meta name="tgn.nation" content="Netherlands"
meta name="tgn.id" content="7007050"

Yep, I use a link and icon on my page to GeoURL for proximity sites. Really should use some Dublin Core (DC) and Friend of a Friend (FOAF) too. There aren't that many users yet though. If only google was behind the service and properly integrated it with maps... ps. I used to call my old site "Jinx"
