GP2X
GP2X
I posted this in the LemonAmiga forum, but thought I'd ask here as well since I know a lot of you nerds are hard core gamers.
I was thinking about getting a GP2X, to use for entertainment as I commute to work. At first I thought about just getting an MP3-player, but after a bit of thinking I started to look into the options in Handheld-land.
Anyway, I found the GP2X pretty intriguing, and I like the big amount of emulators available for it. My question is, how well does it run Amiga games? Has anyone tried it? I know it only runs non-AGA games, which isn't a problem, but I'm not interested in getting a unit if it doesn't give smooth, close to 100% emulation (at least when it comes to game speed).
And while at asking, how well does it run other emulators (though the Amiga emulation is the most important, at least for me )?

Sumppi has one - he may be able to help ya.
I was very tempted but read a lot about people having problems with the screen and joypad and decided to leave it (I think the wife's getting me a Nintendo DS for x-mas anyway - Nitro tracker HERE I COME)!

I'm uncertain that it will have enough power for smooth Amiga emulation, but(?)...

Hey Makke!
Interestingly enough, if you go to the official UK site - http://www.gbax.com/ - the news for November 10th ("Looking for a full speed Amiga Emulator?") would probably do the job for you

Ah yeah.
I've more or less decided to get one, because I like the vast amount of emulators for it, and most of them seem to be top of the line. I also love how it's a very open platform to develope stuff on. That's much to my liking!
Will prolly have to wait a couple of months before I get one though - with xmas and all coming up, there's enough money going out the door as it is already.

Heh, yeah. I actually went a bit crazy and ordered one right away. I figured I'd have more time exploring the device during Christmas than after (plus I had more on my account than I expected), so I placed an order a couple of days back.
I just hope they'll ship it in time before the holidays.

You really know how to make someone feel good about their purchase.Steve Dee wrote:I had one, hard to control, emus are a bugger to setup and it crashed too often, I downgraded my PSP instead and never been happier!!!
Anyway, I don't mind a bit of fiddling, and I've mostly heard good things. Haven't tried it though, so it's kind of a "pig in the sack" buy.

Emulators on the PSP are more than slightly pants. Amiga emulation is spotty at best, C64 emulation has the options of "Collision Detection" or "SID Emulation" and even then only 80% of either.
Let me know how the GP2X is for Amigulation, because that's what I'd want one for. If you can actually set up a hardfile (ooer, missus) and run Workbench/MagicWB on it, I may squeal like a cheerleader. LightWave 2.5, Handheld Variant - how damn cool would that be?

Of course if it is crap, I'll have the consolation of jamming my GP32X up your rectum!
You will just have the consolation of owning 2 GP32X's!

BTW, I got an email yesterday saying that there is a 3-5 day delay in dispatch due to an unusually high demand (obviously because of Makke's post)!
I'd order now if you want it overseas by Xmas (usually 24 hour delivery in the UK).
