Timbaland in unauthorised SID usage allegations
Timbaland in unauthorised SID usage allegations
I don't know if this has been brought up before, but I got a notice from Glenn Rune Gallefoss about this song from Nelly Furtado - Do It:

Now check out GRG's SID Acid Jazz (which is a cover, but I guess the SID-sound is the interesting part here):

What do you think?

Yes very C64ish indeed. I wonder if a "SidStation" was used?
I did some searching and a lot of sites said the same thing as the following quote.
"The album, mostly produced by Timbaland, showed her experimenting with a more R&B–hip hop sound and the "surreal, theatrical elements of '80s music"."
I cant quite make the connection since Timbaland is more of a Hip Hop & R&B Type of producer.

Ok, here's an explanation:
- The very original is a Mod called "Acidjazzed evening" by Tempest.
- GRG covered this in 2002.
- In 2006 Nelly Furtado releases "Do it", which in my ears sounds very the same as GRG's version.
- And finally, no, GRG has nothing to do with Nelly Furtado.
Of course, it could just be a coincidence that NF's version sounds so similar to GRG's version. But a little strange anyways :)

I've just noticed something similar in "Die Welt von Mitteleuropa aus" by the German band "Wohlstandskinder". The arpeggio sounds quite SIDdish, doesn't it?
But I don't know if they in fact used a SID for that part.

There are 10 types of people in the world: Those who understand binary and those who don't.
There's a YouTube video that does quite a good comparison of the songs (just skip the comments for your own safety):

Regarding the comments - Ignorance is bliss!
The finn should be grateful that they stole his song?
Well, then. The music industry as a whole should be grateful, people copy 'their' music. At least people are buying 'their' shit in the end.
