I think everyone has the same feelings - it's such a desperately sad piece of news. I'm sure a small confort to family/friends of Richard will be that his music lives on, and still gives great pleasure. He'll always be fondly remembered by our small community.
He was a very nice bloke, with time enough to chat to people during BIT. My thoughts are with his family.
RIP Richard
** Addition - I agree with retromarkie - anyway we can show our respect ??? **

I was fortunate to have been able to talk to Richard on several occasions and he was always such a genuinely nice person and a great musician. Such a tragic day, the world will be a worse place without him and I send my thoughts and feelings out to his family...

<fnordpojk> Dan_Gillg: Is WoW down, or what brings you here?
I'm sad and shocked to hear the news about Richard, I only got to meet him a couple of times but he came across as a great guy, someone who was really knowledgeable about music and with a real love for life.
Here's Richard meeting Kenz at the Retro Ball in December 2005:
EDIT:
Been thinking for the last few minutes about what would be a way for the community to mark Richard's passing.
My main thought so far has been a Richard Joseph remix competition, with the winning entries put onto CD and profits to charity. What do you all think?

To quote from the interview Neil did with Richard:
Let's make sure history remembers this genuinely nice person that was Richard Joseph, and his works. This is a call to keep the scene alive, it obviously meant a lot to him. Rest in peace, Richard!Neil: Lastly, what would you like to say to the c64 community?
Richard: I would like to say that it's brilliant that there's a community at all. After the c64 disappeared into commercial history and the industry was pushing forward I just thought that everyone’s pioneering work would simply be forgotten. Not so! The appreciation of retro games and the people who made them is wonderful, as is the continued use of the machine and emulators, with remixes and CDs... wonderful.
I send a mail to propose nearly the same thing to remix64's adminmerman wrote: My main thought so far has been a Richard Joseph remix competition, with the winning entries put onto CD and profits to charity. What do you all think?
i didn't know if a remix CD can make profits
but this CD can Honour his memories
I know the best remixer will make the the best remix from titles likes megalomania, barbarian, defender of the crown, antiriad, rimrunner ....
and i will one of the first to buy it

I'm saddened and shocked to hear of Richard passing away.
I met him a couple of times at Bitlives, a lovely bloke who always had time for people and so enthusiastic about the remix scene and the community spirit that surrounded it.
He was also a very generous man, as I sent him an e-mail shortly before the 1st Bitlive asking about the cancelled PC game SexnDrugsnRocknRoll and what became of it. He said that only the complete soundtrack was available, he could send me it if I wanted it. I said "great, thanks very much", he replied "no probs, will be in the post soon". Got sent the whole soundtrack on CD for free! I was expecting to pay something towards the costs, but Richard was more than happy to send it as a freebie. He even apologised for the lack of packaging for it!
I was touched by how generous he was and his modesty at the level of success and acclaim he had.
He will be sadly missed.
R.I.P Richard

I'm very disappointed with that attitude.
I can assure you it is much, much more important than that.'
