Samples

Post by Dumper »

I was wondering where everyone gets their sounds and samples from for the music they create. What are the best sites to get samples from? I hear such great sounds in many remixes but have no idea where to get them. If anyone could give me some hints it would be much appreciated.

I would imagine sample CD's are the main source. You can try and search for free samples on the net, but they are usually pretty bad, from my experience.

A good place to start is magazines like Future Music and Computer Music. They seem to give away about 1000 samples free with each issue now as a matter of course these days!

Ebay is good too, but they are usually dodgy (illegal) copies of pro sample CDs'.

Take a look at http://www.popmusic.dk/hitkit-uk.html and see if it has the kind of samples you are looking for.

Professional Sample CD's tend to be expensive, but they are usually of high quality a lot of work has gone into them.

It depends: There are some really good Soundfonts on the web, a little bit of googling assumed. The steeldrum of my Bionic Commando remix for example is a free soundfont.
Or start here: http://www.kvraudio.com/.
Searching the forum you'll find some useful links. Or browse this one: http://www.synthzone.com/soundfont.htm
Some sites may need registering but it might be worth it.

I use old Jeskola Buzz, its a softsynth, sequencer and tracker in one.
Its a great tool, and it also have a very sweet vst loader with full (i think) vst2.4 instrument and effect support (polac vsti loader)
Theres plenty of free vst instruments and effects available all over for download too :)

It's not too hard to export sounds from buzz hence you could make your own samples. I some times do when i work with madtracker and the likes.

So the only time i use samples is for drums, guitars in the song i have hosted here is generated in buzz in real time :)

however buzzmachines.com seems to be down :(

Do you know a place where I can get HQ samples for drum & bass genre?
I say there is an invisible elf in my backyard. How do you prove that I am wrong?

Buzz is a nice tracker, I have made a few tracks in that a few years back, I have those at this adress...
http://trace.ziphoid.com/html/music/own.htm

The specific program used for the tracks is named in front of the track names :D

I even used a program called AXS and that was nice and simple too :)

Yeah, buzz is nice. I make all my songs in buzz.

Hopefully the new Buze will get finished!
It looks promising!

I google about when i look for mine, i like alot of my stuff dirty sounding so the old 8hz drumloops are perfect for me (whack em through a filter/distortion unit and bobs my uncle.. and bye bye your ears xD).

ive got a fair few sample collections from here

http://www.breakbeatparadise.com as the guy who runs it happens to also be the guy who im contractually obliged to write "commercial" music for and alot of the drumloops/synths etc on there are pretty good too.

and finally a fair while ago a very lovely man sent me a zip full of drum hits which i have treasured ever since and use regulary in all my music.

and yeah, the new buzz is looking pretty nice. (been a buzz user since 2002).

If it doesnt start try changing the compatability mode for Buzz.exe to Windows NT (right-click on Buzz.exe, compatability tab). Also, run the fixkit. There might be other problems, too. If it still dosnt work try deleting renaming, themes folder. If it still doesnt work remove all genrators and effects. And add one by one till you find the bad one :P

They should really make a new bigpack, there are other install packs on other sites that I think are better. Dont have all the adresses to them though and some of them are gone. Once you get a working installation though, you can use it forever. Just run the fix kit if you reinstall windows.

And the adress to Buze is http://batman.no/buze/ I hope its okey to spread the adress now, before it wasnt.

There are other clones too, BuzzRMX and Buzzle and on linux Buzzaldrin and also Buzztard.
