My feeling is that long clips can give away too much, but short clips cannot tell you enough other than a general feeling about the track

Anyway, after I cleared the massive debt Infamous had run up on my credit card (I'm still waiting for my brown envelope, or I tell everyone about the Girl Guide troop) I pre-ordered my copy of SIDOLOGIE. Looking forward to it...

If you cant make a creative and different remix of a tune with the equipment youve got,no matter how old or out of date it is(i use VERY OLD SOFTWARE on an AMIGA!!! with nineties music gear) Then dont bloody bother! I dont care if you say you"like grey faces" cos most remixers will know youre talking s*ite! I KNOW IT BOTHERS YOU VERY MUCH IF PEOPLE DONT LIKE YOURE MIXES!
Ive listened to both of your REMIXES,blah blah and blah blah!And i can safely say i can see why the votes cast on the first (uridium) remix are NEGATIVE! I cant however fathom why your Fury Of The Furries mix appears to be positive!
I have only uploaded ONE remix on a site and its well recieved(and not just publicly but privately by a couple of distinguished names on the commodore scene).

I agree, that is more than a little unfair. There is a marked improvement in his work (without doubt) and he definitely puts extra effort into the content than he had before. Platoon has some athmosphere about it that many tracks don't (Although i'm not a big fan of sid-sounds in a remake). The cauldron one has some nifty effects as well. I just hope that infamous or any other nervous potential remixers aren't put off by a reaction like that to someone who's making an effort.

Sorry,yes i was harsh but was only responding to comments made on these forums by infamous(not to me personaly)in the past,and i have held back on saying anything till now!

I apprieciate and respect other comments that have been made since my last post.

As i said im not a nasty person,im a nervous newcomer aswell with respect to releasing new mixes,and it doesnt help when someone claims to be on some higher artistic plane than you,when they clearly arent!(and yes infamous has stated he is a proffesional artist in these formums in the recent past).

It annoys.

An amazing CD that puts Marcel on the map big-time makes its pre-debut, and no one says anything...

Is everybody really that jaded? Or was everybody just waiting for the weekend to download the clips? Or can't people actually get past the
crappy Javascript cart?

Ok I did a google search and found them.

Here is my Opinion

My Initial Reaction to the clips were that they were nothing more than SID + Jarre Samples, similar to Sid + Drum Loops that a lot of you dont like.

I thought to myself that was not a fair assessment of the album, after all I know how much work goes into these productions and even my best attempt wouldnt sound anywhere close to these tracks. So I shook the bad thoughts out of my head and re-thought the clips.

From the Title of the Album and listening to the clips it appears to me that this a Sid + Jarre Tribute Album. A Tribute to Great Sid Tunes and Jean Michel Jarre at the same time.

3 Tunes stand out for me as my Favourites:

03. Lightforce - Rob Hubbard [Revolutions]
05. Cobra - Sylvester Levay/Ben Daglish [Bladerunner]
I like this 2nd best compared to Tomas Deteret Version.
07. Knucklebusters - Rob Hubbard [Zoolook]

Sidologie is a Mix or Marriage of Sid + Jarre, some hard core
jarre fans will probably not like this CD since there arent many
out there who can pull off something like this.

Other examples are.

Thomas Deteret - He's Vangelis Style tunes are out of this world, if someone told me they were remixed by Vangelis Himself I would believe it.

Henrik Huste Norseth - I briefly met him through the Original Official Jarre Forums, and was kind enough to give me a track called "Oxypops" which at the time he was working on releasing on a CD with other artists, unfortunatly the Forums Closed and I lost contact with him. This track oxypops was recorded with synths like Moog / Oberheim etc... it is very authentic jarre sounding and if you heard you would think its some Lost Jarre Track from the Oxygene / Equinox Era.

All the clips sounds nicly polished and great sounding, if you want to
hear a SID+Jarre Tribute CD than one is for you.

However if you approach this CD as another C64 Remix CD, than you may
be dissapointed as it can initialy sound like a SID+Jarre's Samples.

Which is the mistake I made initialy.

Been a jarre fan since 1979 (I was 9 years old), and C64 Fan since 1983.
and a Vangelis Fan since 1984

But this is exactly how Marcel did his album: there are no Jarre samples
at all: it was all recreated doing exactly the same thing as this guy
apparently did with Oxypops: by getting the same synths as Jarre
and Vangelis and using them cleverly to create "lost Jarre tracks".
He even got the same old organ (Farfisa?) that was used to do the rhythm
on tracks like Oxygene II and Oxygene IV, the same phaser pedal, the same string ensemble, and of course the Yamaha CS80 monster
for the Vangelis tracks.

Incidentally, Synth Music Direct (one of the most prestigious sellers
of synth music: http://www.synthmusicdirect.com) also liked the album
so much that they decided to stock it: and they're very choosy,
rejecting most albums submitted to them (from all sources).

They also appreciated the sense of humour, both musically and
on the cover. So this CD appeals both to Jarre fans in the outside
world, and synth music fans generally.

I did initialy look at the albums as a SID Music with Jarre accompaniment, but thats because I'm used to a traditinal C64 Remix CD
however this is not a Traditional C64 Remix CD so it would be fair
to label it as a SID + Jarre Background Music.

Analog-X: I've been a Jarre Fan for over 20 years and to be honest
it does not appeal to me as a Jarre Fan. However it appeals to me as
a different approach to remixing C64 Music while being sort of a
tribute to Jarre at the same time.

This will sound harsh, but the choice of CD Cover gives the impression
of "This is my First CD Cover".

I'm not arguing just expressing my opinion. Its a Fine piece of work and
I wish all the best for its success.
