People Throwing Retro Computers in Garbage!!! ARGH!!!!

I remember when I upgraded from the C64 to the Amiga, I'd called a local trader in who was offering cash for them. He showed up, liked it, no qualms, said he wanted it, then, when we got to the door - he went back on his £50 offer and changed it to £10 cos "the sid chip sounds a bit shit really" .. I was HAPPY to boot him out, GERRORF MOI LARRRND .... I was REALLY insulted by that for some reason. I think I was closer to my 64 than was healthy back then.

It did eventually go to a good home though.

When I got rid of the A500, I found out it was more valuable in bits than as a whole unit (sad)... they were going for around £45 2nd user back then, I took mine appart and sold it as spares, got about £70 all in and I still had the case and mobo to lob in the skip .. I still cried a little, and died a little inside when I did it too - was a very bad day for me...

Well.....sometimes someone throwing things away can be a good thing too, at least it was for me. I got my most precious C64 because they were throwing it away at college.... What it is ? My lovely SX-64

Note : the Competition Pro is new, and the KCS powercartridge i bought for 10 Guilders ( about 4,5 Euros )

I liberated a perfectly working C64II from the fate of recycling and stowed it away in case my other breadbins bite the dust.

That's the problem with the new era of PC computers. They are so faceless, characterless and boring that nobody is going to want to salvage them or re-use them in a few years time...

Well, on the other side I scrapped 5 working Pentium I - III PCs because nobody wanted them...

I have about various Pentium I - III's to scrap, they are useless nothing unique about them. I tired using the PIII's for a Render Farm, but they just are not fast enough.

Maybe it's just that they are in perfect working order and there are still people who cannot affort a computer and those old PCs are good enough for writing letters, learn things, read e-mails and so on.

I tried to donate the PII's and PIII's and the recycling center wont even look at them.

I took about 10 working printers and 3 Scanners to the Recycling center and they got dumped into a big bin, with other Printers and Scanners.

I miss my old Commodore 16. It died and I threw it away with other related stuff about 10 years ago. I regret chucking anything now, and my place is full of bits and bobs, some broken and I use rebuilt pc's for editing on. Most of the RAM is recycled from bits I found.

AnnaBlack: The wonders of commodore indeed - a chap I knew a few years back was telling me how he couldnt DO things in photoshop *frustration* - I showed him what could be done with just 16 colours, let alone 16 million. Suffice to say he was gobsmacked - then he heard the chipmusic, fell in love and almost fainted when he saw the size of the file

I havent had any luck finding any Retro Gems locally. I would have to get something through EBay.

Maybe I should advertise anyone want to get rid of their old 80's junk that I'll take them.
