KLF "What Time Is Love"

Post by Makke »

I was going to start on an idea I had for a remix that I wanted to sound like KLF's "What Time Is Love", however I've been unable to find the right sounds for it.

So I'm wondering if anyone (with a keen ear or whatever) have any clue what gear they might've used for that song. Just so I have some pointers as too where to look for sounds.

I hate it when my creativity get's shot down due to lack of raw material. :(

Kwed is your man for this one, definitely. If anyone knows his KLF, he does.

Mainly you'll need the 3 magic numbers - 303, 808, 909.

And of course samples of just about anything you can get your hands on - no matter what the record company/original artist have to say (a pox on Abba for being responsible for the "1987" album being withdrawn )

ok for the 303, 808 and 909, but the main analog synths used (at least, in the original WTIL) are from an Oberheim OB-x.

They also used an Akai S900 for all the samples.

Cheers.

And get all of the "Simon Harris Break Beats & Scratches" volumes on vinyl (though I think some or all may be available on cd if you can find them in used cd stores)
