Re: Random Thoughts.
I don't want to go into this really, but lets say that there isn't money to be gained out of CD's it has a much bigger picture. It's more to do with ambition and love. No more said on the subject, if ya want to discuss that, open a new thread and we'll talk about that part there...
Tho analogue, i would like you to expand on what you mean by Eliteist. if it's relevent to the "Commercial part", then again open a new thread.

Nope.....Just ignore that one it was just a random thought I wrote down, nothing more than that just a random thought.Chris Abbott wrote:> I didnt see anyone touch the subject of "MONEY"
Because it's not relevant to the discussion, which is about too many people
remixing the same old game tunes. Sounds like you're just itching
to make it an issue though.
Chris
Please Ignore it.

Like my subject said random thoughts I just had some random thoughts in my head and wrote them done, not meant to be negative.Tas wrote:I don't want to go into this really, but lets say that there isn't money to be gained out of CD's it has a much bigger picture. Hmm.
I don't know if my musical activities on the c64 or the general 'Music is Art' credo can be categorized as 'elitism', but quite frankly, I don't care. To me, it all boils down to this: Music is universal, timeless. The used platform is irrelevant. Its popularity is irrelevant. Its commercial aspects are irrelevant.
When I'm behind the c64, trying to create a song, I create it for myself in the first place - what others think doesn't matter. Why I'm not doing it on a tracker or sequencer? Because I love the SID sound. I love the minimalistic aspects and the challenge they imply. It makes the creation process so much more interesting.
I regard the SID as an 'instrument', just like that shiny saxophone lying in my closet on which I occasionally go bonkers during a freestyle jazz session. Both require years of experience and technique to master, but in the end, it's really worth it.
And believe it or not, but I'm not alone - beyond the year 1991, other, much better composers are sharing the same affection for c64 music. And they're still around, even today.
Hence, I'd like to invite you, at your own leisure of course, to \C64Music\Various and discover these talented people for yourself. Just maybe, you'll come across a tune which doesn't capture you because nostalgia captures you, but because it's a really nice piece of music, because it has something special, captivating. Something which just 'clicks'. And just maybe, it clicks enough for you to have a try at a remix to enhance the (relative) beauty/power of the tune even more?
I'd like to thank Waz for his response to my previous post, and I think he and I are pretty much on the same wavelength with regards to this topic, except maybe that I'm not too dismayed with the large amount of remixes for the straightforward nostalgia bonanza. I am a *little* disappointed, though, that for most remixers, only a few c64 musicians seem to exist. Demo music? What's the deal with that, right?
Agreed, Waz's article might've come on a little strong, but I don't think that he wanted to force anything upon us at any time - after all, it's your free time, and what you do with it is your business, period.
Commercialism isn't his goal, either - I think we all know what the commercial outlooks are for underground music... or for most music these days, what with the fake religion that is KaZaA and other, filesharing related programs.
Anyway, may the Music shine in you,
Vincent (aka VipViruZ on #c-64 at mIRC).

La vie, c'est la guerre des dualités
OK, I did it. I made a made a remix of a SID from the VARIOUS folder... I hope you will enjoy it once it is released.
I hope people will find this tune good enough to see that there are some great stuff in the VARIOUS and DEMO folders of HVSC just waiting to be remixed... Maybe remixers will be able to make some SIDs new classics.
If it hadn't been for Waz's article I probably never would have even heard this SID so this one is for you Waz... and Neil, because he was so nice as to help me out with great feedback

<--- I went that way --->
I didn't expect such a quick response in terms of someone producing a remix, and kudos to you for giving it a go. I'll be sure to take a listen, once I can tear myself away from the new Frank Black and the Catholics CD, that is.Larsec wrote:OK, I did it. Hopefully too people will download your work when it's available (well, I will) and appreciate what you have tried to do. If nothing else, it's those that will try and experiment a bit that ultimately get remembered, so let's hope more try the same.

This topic comes at an interesting time actually, since I've been planning getting back to composing again (difficult recently due to change of accommodation - tiny workroom) and have been keen to work on a couple of Steve Barret tracks. I really like his works, in particular Trojan Warrior is one of my fave C64 tunes (both the main themes) - and was delighted when recently it was covered by Dr.Future, ironically in a vaguely similar way to how I was contemplating doing it myself (tho I'm sure there was an incorrect chord in there Sorry!)
So in that respect I'm doing "rare" tracks - yet not the first to cover a particular game.
