Hak.5 and the 1984 Arcade

Post by Jan Lund Thomsen »

I've been a long-time fan of Hak.5, but the latest episode has to be one of the best ones ever. Darren Kitchen takes a trip to the "1984" arcade in Springfield, Missouri. And it looks like an *awesome* place. Once the $5 entrance is paid you can have as many goes on the machines as you want.

I'm into collecting Arcades... I have a real upright and a few Capcom CPS Boards to go with it.

Some FunSpot Photos, I had a first generation Digital Camera at the time so the pictures arent the greatest.
At funspot they play 80's music, and the video games are in great shape.

FunSpot looks awesome. We have California Extreme in San Jose once a year where collectors fill up a HUGE show room with games and pins on free play.

I had heard about Sporup Arcade Museum before, but the image galleries on the site ( like the one on http://uk.spilmuseum.dk/museumgalleri.php?id=60 ) has never convinced me to visit it. Especially compared to something like the 1984 arcade, or even the Game On exhibition in London which I was lucky enough to attend.

Anyhoo, it seems you'll have to hurry. According to http://uk.spilmuseum.dk/museumnyhed.php?id=26047 they're closing next week, thanks to the municipality being rather hostile towards them. But at least they're gonna reopen in a different part of the country later on.
