Open links in new window/tab?

Post by omoroca »

As has been unsuccessfully discussed in this thread already, some users seem to prefer links inside forum posts to be opened in a new window/tab and other don't.

What's your opinion?

I say "yes", because then you can go on reading the forum in one window and look at the new page in a different window/tab...

...which you very well can do equally as good if you just press Ctrl or Shift when clicking on a link to make it open in a new tab/window...

Hence, my vote is No...

why make this a choice of the board, and not of the user ? Most modern browsers have an option to open a link in a seperate browser/tab using the middle mousebutton ( i have that in Opera )

The question you're asking there is a question of philosophy, whereas I am arguing about usability and users' comfort.

But we shouldn't discuss that here, this is supposed to be just a poll.

So keep on voting, folks!

But what if you are too lazy to press a key AS WELL AS a mouse button?
phpBB forums like this used to automagically open a new window, no reason why it can't keep doing that...

Well, if you're THAT lazy, then get mouse with a button programmable the way FFrenzy said or just right-click and select to open it in a new tab/window. ;)

Either way, I guess the poll will show what the people wants. Quite a tie as it is of now, though...

Funny, I just press the middle mouse button (wheel actually) when I want to open a link in a new tab in Firefox. I didn't even know it was possible to create a setting that makes links open in new tabs/windows without rewriting every single link?

They are supposed to both open in a new tab.

Try this:
same window/tab
