That is a horrific story, sorry you had to go through it.
Its the same here in North America... My wife got an infection after her operation for thyroid cancer back in 2001, everything seemed to be ok, till she developed a fever and I had to rush her back to the hospital. It turns out she got an infection where they did the surgery and a hole was starting to form long story short they put a tube down here throat and she couldnt speak... I was visiting everyday and making sure all her needs were met and that she wasnt neglected. The following day, I come to see all this medical equipment in her room.
Well she went CODE Blue which is basically dead, it turns out her tube had to be replaced every 24 hours and they hadnt replaced it for 3 days so it got blocked and she couldnt breath. She wrote help I cant breath on a notepad (which I still keep) and the nurse called for help and they were able to save her. This was a very big deal.... we thought about taking things to court, but at the time she had already gone through so much and we were more concerned about her cancer treatment rather than suing, so we never pursuit it.
Oh and you can make of this whatever you want, but the Nurse that came in just in time and saved my wife, was never to be found... nobody knew her based on my wifes descriptions of her, and they said they didnt have such nurse on that shift.
