WIP: Adam Gilmore - Draconus (Speeds of Three Remix)
WIP: Adam Gilmore - Draconus (Speeds of Three Remix)
Hi,
I've always loved this SID but it always scared me seeing that it has three (yes three!) different TEMPO's (roughly 84BPM, 125BPM and 168BPM!). Now i am sure that somebody much brighter than me musically or indeed programatically can tell me how Mr Gilmore managed this back in the day but as a compromise I just made the remix start with the 84BPM bit and then I put a helmet on it and made it go at speeds of THREE (or actually 168BPM to be exact) for the later two parts.
So here is a relatively incomplete WIP of the track:
Original Artist: Adam Gilmore
Original SID: MUSICIANS\G\Gilmore_Adam\Draconus.sid
SID Subtune: 3 of 7 (Main Title - I checked!)
Remix Name: Draconus (Speeds of Three Remix)
Remix Style: Hardcore
WIP Link: http://www.djskitz.com/mp3/DJ_Skitz_-_D ... Remix).mp3
I would appreciate some feedback but I think with a little extending, some more interesting breaks and a LOT of mastering this might work
Thanks for your time.....
END OF LINE.

Sounds round and fruity so far...
The bass appears a bit too weak imho...

Thanks Amok and yes it does sound round and Fruityloops Studio XXL Producer Edition
Yes, the bass got stomped on when I ran it through IzoTope Ozone and I think I need to spend more time mastering my tracks rather than just relying on the Dance with Exitation preset!! It actually sounds better with just a soft clipper and nothing else.
Anyhoo, I will spend a little more time on it today as I need to add some more bits to it

Nice one mr skitz I think you should make the kick more hardcore, harder and disted(not to much though) and BASSY, other than that it's nice

I agree with Trace.
This type of track would not fit the game at all, so it not a remix that could been used at title, but I have to say, what so ?
Which synth did you use (you know I use same app)?

Huh? If you take the numbers as (84, 126, 168), there's nothing strange. They are quite naturally related in being 42*(2, 3, 4). There's no reason for a compromise. You can easily do the right thing if you still want...skitz wrote: [...] it has three (yes three!) different TEMPO's (roughly 84BPM, 125BPM and 168BPM!). Re: WIP: Adam Gilmore - Draconus (Speeds of Three Remix)
Just sound faster? Dunno, maybe wind every instrument a quarter of octaves up and add some chipmonk-samples to it? And, um, maybe more of those sequenced synth-patterns that go "BIDI-BIDI-BIDI-BIDI" all the time?
Honestly, I'm not better with technicalities than this. That's why I have AIDS! Meet Lman and Trace! <poorly hidden tv-show trivia>

Re: WIP: Adam Gilmore - Draconus (Speeds of Three Remix)
most of the modern happy hardcore stuff runs at 170/180 so your not far off and someone playing that out would probably pitch you up anyway.
Beef up the drums, if your going for the hardcore sound take a look round'tinternet for dj gamma, dougal, darren styles etc to see how they do it, loud overbearing BOOM drums and tiny little gated and heavily compressed snares, the rest of it though is awesome there is a huge potential to be a right little slammer, remember to do a nice midway break section for the dummy suckers and boobtube wearers.
Sort of like the file below, pretty basic 170bpm beat

Re: WIP: Adam Gilmore - Draconus (Speeds of Three Remix)
Thanks for your help on this one Infy but to be honest I think this is going into my I'll get back to it WIP folder because I don't think I have the skills yet to make a happy hardcore remix that sounds any good. It just doesn't feel happy at all and sounds very muddy at the moment.
If I don't get any inspiration soon I might simply abandon this one..... the SID deserves better

It's tough with happy hardcorde stuff music, don't abandon it, make a co-op with speedy-max
Re: WIP: Adam Gilmore - Draconus (Speeds of Three Remix)
Would love to but fear we don't use the same sequencer - FLStudio is all I Knowtrace wrote:It's tough with happy hardcorde stuff music, don't abandon it, make a co-op with speedy-max

Then start spreading your wings
You can allways bounce each track as wav and let the max take care of the drums
Or let me try, I use Ableton live and can easily use the bounced wav's and add my kicks
