WIP: 1st Remix - Druid 2

Post by 7thpixel »

Hello, I've been asking around for feedback on a Druid 2 Remix and this seems to be a good place to post it (other than IRC). I'm somewhat new to remixing, but it's very addicting and I'm learning as I go here. Currently I'm using Reason 4 and a small Edirol USB Controller as my setup.

I chose Druid 2 because it is simple, and I really dig David Hanlon's work. Reyn, Slaygon and Ziphoid have been nice enough to give me preliminary feedback such as:

1. Take the reverb off the drums (done)
2. Add in pads for the gaps in the percussion (thinking about this)
3. Take the FM off the Baseline (in progress)
4. Sounds a bit thin, add in more! (in progress)

So I'd appreciate any constructive feedback you all have.

I'll update this post with more recent versions if you all do not flame me off the board :)

thanks!

Welcome to Remix64!!! and a remix work right off the bat, which always a bonus.

I like what you've done so far... depending on which direction you're going with this... I think some kind of stab/hit sound and maybe a low key piano riff would fit in there.

You can easily turn this into some kind of Druid Gangsta mix. :)

Yes, Welcome to the remix scene :D
Nice one, My first thought about this piece is that the drums are abit repetitive, don't know how they are in the finished version though :D

Hi there, 7thpixel! :)
I'll have a listen, too. And then give you a pointless 'review'. ;)
But I'll listen...

Ok, had a listen. Now for the pointless 'review':
For my taste the lead does not really fit that kind of drumline, which is kind of (already said) repetitive. But it's a nice start. And you'll have some guys here to help you getting that remix into dry clothes... :)
All is lost.

I appreciate the feedback, and will work on the drums a bit. I'm still a noob with programming them in Reason, so I'm taking samples and reworking them till they sound better.

I do have a folder full of rap samples on one of my Data Becker CD's, maybe I can overlay them for fun :)

Ok I've been working on this! I axed the horrible lead, and fell in love with the NN-XT. I still need to slice up the drums a bit, but please take a listen to the newest version of my Druid Track here: http://7thpixel.net/media/music/Druid_2 ... d_WIP3.mp3

hmmm... sounds a bit muddy and the drums dont really fit. but thats only my opinion... i think that druid 2 is very hard to remix. i tried it myself and didnt get the right timing...

Well I still think its a big step in the right direction with the mix, so I'll keep at it.

Hey guys I've been busy (had a baby!) and haven't been able to work on this one again. Once I get some free time & sleep hopefully I can continue!
