Sequential Prophet 2002 Lives Again!

Post by d.a.wilson »

Hello All,

I recently purchased a 25 year old Sequential Prophet 2002 on eBay which I've successfully restored to full working order to add to the studio... and what a lovely beast it is too - despite it's tiny 512K RAM it's got nice crunchy 12 bit DACs into real analog resonant filters with a brilliant stack facility - up to 8 detuned and delayed samples played in unison into analog filters that go into self oscillation.... Fat!!! :)

It's also got a great arpeggiator too which is midi sync'able. I bunged this test track together on Sunday in celebration. The SCI is playing the arpeg 5ths that run throughout.

Cheers,

Dan.

It's an EPS16+ - so it's not that vintage cos it's 16bit already. The Mirage had 12 bit AFAIR.
Nonetheless it has a great punchy sound and unique resampling features.
However I only use it in rare occasions when I sometimes need an additional
footswitch <> MIDI converter :)

Many thanks... curiously my music has not been as universally liked or disliked as some over the past 20 years - in fact typically reponses to an original or remix may range from a big red smiley to a grey frown! .... and yes there will always be some duds....

Still.... I've no intention of stopping so keep tuned....

Cheers :eekout:

In computer terms, this sounds antiquated... in a positive way!
You fancied - by any chance - a white or pink 100% polyester jacket while recording to match the retro ambience feeling? ;-)

:) Actually I probably get the "last Laugh" here - everyone has gone PC mad BUT the facts are... 4 year old PC... worth nothing.... 25year old sampler... worth more than a new PC! I know soft synths are all the rage but MAN the sum total of this old studio is a fortune these days!!
