Harmonic 313 - Cyclotron (C64 SID)

Post by Waz »

I was browsing the record shops yesterday, and noticed that in Fopp, one of the albums that was being promoted was the release by Harmonic 313, called "When Machines Exceed Human Intelligence". It wasn't being played in the shop, but I took a note of the track listing at the back, which had the track "Cyclotron" and then later on in the track listing, "Cyclotron (C64 SID)".

As you can well imagine, I thought to myself "Surely that's not a SID-only version of the song, is it? That would be pretty cool all round really." and endeavoured to see if I could check it out when at home later.

Well, I took a listen to the preview of the track, and I don't know if they have permission or not, but there's definitely the drums from Martin Galway's "Arkanoid" as well as the "Go!" voice which is Rob Hubbard from BMX Kidz. You can hear both in the preview here:

Are those Arkanoid drums freely available on any legal sample CDs, or is it just another case of a SID rip-off?

Good find...

I heard Arkanoid, BMX Kid samples, as well as the Arcade Ambient Sample used in an M.A.M.E Front end.
