Re: I'm a Twitt.
My experience with Twitter has been mostly positive so far. Then again, I only follow a handful of people, and with one exception they all post updates relating to a single topic. Also, all of them are related to the remixing scene in some way.Analog-X64 wrote:Not sure how much I will use this.... http://twitter.com/AnalogX64
On the other hand, I'm not sure I'm confortable with all of the people that follow my updates - a fair share of them seem to be using twitter solely for link-building. I mean, who *really* has time to follow several thousand others?

Re: I'm a Twitt.
I like the way Facebook is set up -- you have a certain amount of privacy, and the twitter postings I see linked on Facebook are usually just a bit more banal and uninteresting, lacking links, photos, details etc. After a day of reading other people's twitter updates, I think I experienced all I want of it.
I really don't need to read someone twittering "oooh, that was a big one" from the toilet...
I guess I would be interested in following a celebrity I'm obsessed with, maybe catch a glimpse into their next movie or music project via twitter. But not the "I picked up a can of green beans for tonight" type of stuff.

Re: I'm a Twitt.
I can't stand peole who mostly post "enjoying a tall late at Café Such-and-such", "touched down at <X> airport" or "Just woke up" messages on twitter. Same thing with blogs - if you can't concentrate on a topic that interests me, then I can't be bothered to keep up with what you write. Period.RobinsonMason wrote:I really don't need to read someone twittering "oooh, that was a big one" from the toilet...
Okay, so I moaned about Wordpress acting stupid on a recent tweet. But at least it was about making the Take-away website more search-engine friendly. So it was still on-topic.

Not much you can do about it, unless you enable the settings > accont > protect my updates thingy, which will let you decide who can follow your updates. But yeah, both of those followers certainly look like marketing schemes.Analog-X64 wrote:I guess I need to check my settings? Re: I'm a Twitt.
I have a TWATTER, I like it, and use it quite a bit. I only follow people whom I find interesting, so it's pretty rad. And just let all the spam twatters follow you, their accounts will be deleted in like, less than a day.
Re: I'm a Twitt.
Twitter is another one of those things (like Livejournal) I couldn't quite get the hang of. I like participating in community forums/discussion and that sort of thing, but Twitter is everyone just sort of talking out loud and hoping someone's listening.
I may give it another shot if more people from my real life used it, but for now I'll just continue being anti-social.

Re: I'm a Twitt.
I saw this in the public timeline on twitter a while back and I thought it summed it up pretty well;
"#WhyITweet it's the world's quietest primal scream. I get it out and no one really hears me."
Yes I have an account. I Follow some people I find funny, interesting or have something in common with. But I'm also one of them who twitters like 'ooooooh I'm having a cup of coffee' so if you don't like that you are warned.

I guess it's all down to how you use it - I've just gotten in touch with the host of BBC's "Digital Planet" via Twitter, and all I did was mention that they did a segment on chiptunes in the latest edition of the programme, and he picked up on it on his own.

Like any good conversion Twitter is more about listening than talking.

Re: I'm a Twitt.
Rumor is, they are thinking about charging for the use of Twitter.
Re: I'm a Twitt.
How do you have a good conversation when you're limited to such short messages? Twitter may be the closest thing we have to 1984's newspeak; it is so simplified that it's difficult to express complex ideas.
I've had lots of banal, trivial conversations on Twitter that were friendly and fun but nothing particularly useful or interesting.

That rumor has been going on on many of the most popular sites and services. YouTube, Facebook, Windows Live and Hotmail that I know of.Analog-X64 wrote:Rumor is, they are thinking about charging for the use of Twitter.
