I saw the indoors concert in Helsinki 16.5.2009.
It was absolutely wonderful to hear all the classic Jarre tunes live. Though the sound was typical arena concert type and I did not find it special in any way. The concert itself was bit unevenly paced and there was confusion at the end whether the concert ended or not. Funniest moment was when the laser harp broke down. It seems that the instrument is some sort of a midi trigger, but not a real keyboard. Laser lights were just awesome. Setup of the stage, lights and effects in generally were quite static, no video screens. Not many blinding flashing lights either, which was nice. There was no carnival feeling that is associated with big Jarre outdoors concerts. This was much more intimate listening experience.
Would've been interesting to see the same gig with younger - club going - audience instead of near-mid-aged folks sitting down. Cheaper tickets would've certainly made more active audience.
Still - Rendez Vouz II is just incredible experience to hear played very very loud

I wouldn't say hes run out of ideas as such. It's more of a case of the technology he used in the 70's and 80's is now so much affordable that hes no longer a pioneering force in electronic music. Also, the industry has changed a lot in the last 10 years and now because the big record companies have overtaken all the indie labels they don't like taking a chance - prefering music styles that are in the mainstream and are more likely to sell. I like the fact that he has now gone back to his roots and is now making music using technology that first got him noticed. I'd expect to see an album similar in style to Oxygene or Equnioxe in the next few years.

One question for me popped up... will the death of his father have an impact on the plans?
All is lost.
Re: Jean Michel Jarre - World tour 2009-2010??
More than likely he'll change the set and have a tribute to his father in it - he wrote some great stuff.

I saw Jarre perform in a small factory building i Denmark some 5-10 years back... a small not so known event. I'm glad I did, and that I've experienced him.
I clearly remember the initiating of the event... while people were finding their seats, "Waiting for Costaeu" was playing in the background, and the whole scene was covered in a white cloth sheet with lights all over it... very moody.
Then when the show was to start, a ground shaking boom emitted from the scene, and a single light projector behind the coth sheet on the scene was turned on, and you could see Jarre's silhouette in long coat on the cloth sheet... really cool start
Unfortunately later, when he was to turn on the laser harp, something went wrong and it did not start... at first he got a little confused following a laugh from him, and some cursing with a notable french accent
He got it working though... at the end of the show, giving an extra score (as usual), he came in, sat down by a keyboard... only light being a single red burning flame by his side... he played the number one track of his second followup album of Oxygene which was not yet released at that moment.
Through the whole event, he was wearing a very small camera on his glases... this was an infrared camera, and on a big screen on the scene, you could always see what he looked at... so you could joyfully follow his fingers dancing on the keyboards, or twisting knobs when he (quite often) reached out for the huge racks of gear he had on the scene.
Of course he also played the Theremin live...
