As good a dedication as any...

Post by Commie_User »

http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=n ... egacy+demo

The above, if it clicks, takes you to the Google results for COMMODORE 64 SPOILED LEGACY DEMO. Both the disk image and Youtube video are available.

What an epitaph, a fitting memorial to the commercial life of a tool which helped steer the whole course of computer music.

(And you might like to check out Vicious Sid as well, with the video on Youtube)

Do other readers know of any great demos? (As a matter of fact I've linked to some good Binary Zone ones on my own homepage: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/michael.br ... Record.htm).

I don't know. But off the top of my head I do know there have been many similar demos which used Commodore imagery.

Some of my favourites have actually been the Amiga mock-up ones, where boot sequences, desktops and sounds have been skilfully replicated on the Commodore 64. I've also seen demos of PC-type bootup screens leading into apparent crashes of Windows 95 past the splash screen, but I honestly can't remember what they're called. I may be able to locate them, in time, on the web or from downloaded archives no longer online.

Or perhaps other readers have an idea of the names? So watch this space, though none too closely.

Windows 98 spoof:

Cows98, that one's called. Binary Zone has an Amiga one, but other ones abound somewhere.

It took me a while to find because a lot of my downloads go straight to cassette for use on the real machines. But it's quite interesting to see 'Windows 98' boot from a Commodore 64 tape!

Take a look down the left of the page, just above the photo of the Action Replay and MIDI cartridge in the expansion board. You'll see I've added links to a few of the demos I found which contain mock-ups of other computer boots.

Now it's your turn: Any other good demos out there in homage to the 64 or computers in general?
