Monkey Island Remix
I was working out this morning and heard a tune where I really recognized the melody... it was the Monkey Island theme. Listen for yourselves http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HTgRB4Vm0qI. I don't know if it's a commercial release. Pretty of cool if you like tracne.

Re: Monkey Island Remix
Really? In my opinion that was pretty cheap and ... plain BAD!
I have tried to remix Monkey Island this way several times, and abandoned it every time just because the melody would have to sound something like this to fit the trance-genre. So this was nothing new to me, just sad that someone felt like destroying everything that made the original great and leave nothing of it behind.

(btw, everybody prolly knows. But "Scooter - Level One" is a Turrican-remix)

Ugh. Hardstyle is not a good genre, and this didn't fit the genre at all I think. Agree with Skymarshall on this one.
Didn't know that.SkyMarshall Arts wrote: (btw, everybody prolly knows. But "Scooter - Level One" is a Turrican-remix)

Re: Monkey Island Remix
Hehe, I didn't mean I liked it, just that you might like it if you like butchered classics in a trance style It's pretty repetetive too.
A couple of years ago, I kind of liked some of the dance/trance remixes of pop classic etc. but I've really started to dislike the supersaw leads that always are used. They are now like the plague much like the TB303 was in the late 90's/early 00's.
Almost every VSTi have some kind of supersaw and it's so easy just to smack one in as the lead with lots of reverb = instant power to da tune. But it goes with the style I suppose and in some places they might do the trick.
Actually, Scooters Level One is still kick ass

Agree, I wonder why so many remixes are made this way...Mordi wrote:Ugh. Hardstyle is not a good genre

Haha, you said it. What's even worse about that "plague" as you said (nailed) it, is when they took the saw-lead and chopped it up with a gate - to make it fancy. Let me give you an example, and you know what I mean straight away. (skip to where the melody kicks off)Instant Remedy wrote:I've really started to dislike the supersaw leads that always are used.

There are worse examples than that out there, but this ol' gem was the first one that came to mind when I read your post.
It sure does! But hey - it's ScooterInstant Remedy wrote:Actually, Scooters Level One is still kick ass

Re: Monkey Island Remix
I felt the urge to reply to this thread since I disagree with what you refer to as being hardstyle. There are three subgenres that has similarities. Jump/Hardstyle/Shuffle. That particular remix is not even close to hardstyle. It has elements from it but it's closer to jump or eurotrance. Hardstyle is about power and dance. Artists such as Dj Scot Project, Yoji Biomehanika those are real hardstyle artists or were. Check out their stuff from 2000 and earlier. If you heard really good hardstyle you know that genre kicks ass. Not like that monkey island remix which just sounds cheesy and cute. Comparing this with hardstyle is just silly imo. Megaphat reverbed supersaw leads are more common in eurotrance than in hardstyle. Atleast the true hardstyle music.
Just my 50 cents and the fact that hardstyle rocks ; ) But so does many genres

Re: Monkey Island Remix
I'm sure you're right in what you're saying, Peter W. But albums commercially pushed on the public today labeled "HardTrance" or "HardStyle" is pretty much identical to the style displayed in the Monkey-remix mr. Remedy posted up there. So I guess those not deeply inovolved in the genre wont know the difference. That includes me.
But I got a signed friend (Aniki) who plays all over Europe, and his style is called "Fidget" ... I mean, wtf is fidget? Anyway, seems like people who "invent" their own sound, also invents their own sub-genre at the same time to stand out.

What he said =)IMO it's silly to argue about which song belongs to which sub-sub-subgenre.

Re: Monkey Island Remix
Your absolutely right, never thought of it that way Skymarshall. They slap on labels and genres as they seem fit probably.
My point was that the monkey island remix i'm reffering to is not a really good example of hardstyle music imo.
Like Mordi said "Ugh. Hardstyle is not a good genre, and this didn't fit the genre at all I think. Agree with Skymarshall on this one."
However I really enjoy hardstyle since there are some awesome stuff from early 2000 that maybe not all have heard.
