Holiday Remixing Contest!

Post by RobinsonMason »

Hey all, thought some of you might like to try your hand at some relatively high profile games from back in the day with still un-remixed (or rarely remixed) SIDs over this holiday, and so for some Christmas cheer I figured I'd throw in a gift to the winner.

The winner is the one who gets the best rating at RKO in the first week after uploading. Like?

Anyway, for the "winner" you get a downloadable game of choice from a few listed, and they have a C64 retro feel. It's nothing fantabulous, but it's something, eh?

Oh, and of course I'll feature any winners and participants in my next podcast unless you have any objections to that sort of thing.

Check out the RULES here: http://c64walkabout.com/2009/12/22/holi ... ntest.aspx

Oh, and if I really like your remix I may just make you another winner anyway, regardless of the RKO rating. Probably can only afford to give away 3 prizes, tops, though.

To Mods: Not sure if this kind of thing is against board rules, if so, just let me know. There are no ads or other strange profit motives on my site, this is just for fun.

Thanks AX-64! Currently there are no takers, but that makes it all the easier for someone to win by virtue of being the only entrant...! :P

Thanks guys!

Sadly while I did get a few nibbles and people citing interest no one had an entry.

If you do have a remix of any of those songs, however, I may well give you the prize anyway!

Nix that, I WILL gift you one of the mentioned downloadable games (assuming the same games are still up there at the website) if you do any of the following from the list, just because I'd gladly pay that to hear a remix for one of these songs, and even that might be too cheap considering it would be like a commission... Let me know if you're interested or have a counter offer :):

Adventure Construction Set, Subtunes 1 and/or 2.
Below the Root
Mail Order Monsters, Subtunes 1 and 2
(Unzy?)
Realm of Impossibility
Spelunker
Winter Holidays

Karateka (Medley)

I don't celebrate Christmas so I didn't have much holiday spirit to share. But I like compos and I hope you'll organize another in the future.

cheers.

Sweet!

Love that C64GLeN! Submit to RKO when you're done and you'll be an automatic winner! :D

Man...I wish I could whip out stuff like that in 15 min. Perhaps some day...

I don't think it would pass the quality control

You can, follow these simple steps;

Load SID2MIDI, convert SID to MIDI
Open FLstudio, import MIDI.
Change MIDI instruments to closest match in FLstudio
Save MP3, Hey presto, an off-key 15 minute remix.

Of course I'll need step #2 - "(get approval from wife to) BUY FLStudio" first! :P

So can I hope for your "RKO Ready" release of Spelunker? (crosses fingers)

There is plenty of free software that will import MIDI files.

Erm, I'm afraid that's as good as it gets. However, if someone else wants to finish it off, I can provide the files.
