Very interesting. A lot of people, myself included, only knew of Nintendo when the Game And Watch phenomenon gripped the schools.
I'd be particularly interested to see how the book deals with the Miracle Piano and NES music in general. It would be criminal should the music making power of the NES be overlooked. Two of the Super Mario games weren't backward in using drum and percussion samples alongside the synth melodies. As with the Hot Rod or Turbo Out Run equivalents on the C64, some authentic modern arcade-style soundtracks truly beefed up the games.
The old system is certainly good enough to have its own MIDI synth cartridge, though given these problems I'd rather stick to Game Genie-coding and sampling my NES: http://post.monome.org/comments.php?DiscussionID=2932
