On the PC there's Epic Pinball. A nice little play but sluggish and stuttering on my system, which shouldn't happen with an 18-year old game. It may be due to running it 'naked' on WIndows XP without Dosbox or the like, although selecting the motherboard speaker for the game sound sped things up to a reasonable playspeed.

Still, for just before bed at 2am, a sluggish-speed play is just the ticket.

A nice find but there are plenty other pinball titles available which don't involve 'tasks' as part of the game.

Have a try: http://www.dosgamesarchive.com/download/epic-pinball/

NEXT DAY EDIT: Games running unhindered now, though it does still play a little slow. (Mind, the soundcard option's still crap unless you choose the PC speaker.) Don't know why it wasn't behaving before but if you like a game flowing at a relaxed pace then play this pinball.

Though has it really been that long since even games this slick were made? How time flies. 20 years ago I was already in secondary (high) school, never mind primary (elementary). Time's soon coming when I can look back 20 years and still not be a kid. I'll feel old to look back 20 short years and still be of working age.

Though the killer will be to look back 20 years, the standard span for commercial retrospectives, and still find I'm harking back to a time after retirement. (That is if I get that old.) But the games will probably be better by then.

A Polish Tetris clone

None of them seem as good as the Gameboy one but this tops the 'standard' Tetris released over here.

Gameboy Tetris

Binary Zone's remarkable emulation. Port to a real C64 for the required Shift-Lock.

Demon Attack

Not all that fantastic but playable, with good graphics for 1984.

Demon Blue

I don't much care for this game but the graphics are slick. Fab-tastic cracktro tune too.

I surely must be getting into the swing of this by now - I've helped a friend find her old favourites Doom and Manic Miner:

Myself, I've been TAPSERV-ing games from here: http://tapes.c64.no/index.php

Amongst others, I've looked at Countdown, Rampage, Street Fighter 2, WWF and Double Dragon 2, enjoying the loader music and pictures as the TDK cassette spun through my C2N on playback to the 64s.

It's interesting that years ago I wanted nothing less than the speed of the Action Replay-controlled disk drive. Nowadays I'm regressing for retro's sake, enjoying each new good cassette from Ebay, my collection and the Web.

A little similar to my still recording tv programmes using my trusty VHS machines. Though the gear kicks around, I assumed I'd be doing everything to DVD or SVCD a decade ago.

I wanted to avoid rebooting into DOS for TAPSERV by installing DOSBOX myself.

I 'mounted' the relevant hard disk partition, handily FAT-formatted and set to work. The PC couldn't even communicate with the 64, let alone transfer the test data.

I wonder why. DOSBOX is supposed to give you the pre-Windows 95 experience. I'll go back to using my old Windows 98 boot floppy thanks very much!

With TAPSERV running at full steam I copied the recent uploads and transferred more games. Little ones this time, with Fruit Machine Simulator 2 and 3D Pinball taking me nicely to bedtime.

NES Pinball now:

http://www.retrogameoftheday.com/2010/0 ... l-nes.html

Nice to come across it from my box in the quest for new sounds to sample. Though I have to ask whether the 1983 NES wasn't actually slicker than the 1982 C64. I know Mario 3 would have looked different on the Commie.

Nobody else playing games at the moment?

The controls are fuc... awful. AW-FUL! And the difficult is totally laughable hard...But still I`m playing this a lot. Just don`t know why, I guess it`s some kind of "Come on, you bitch...I`ll beat you! I`ll see your end-credits, you goddamn Game!!!!" :duh:

The Titlemusic isn`t bad at all. Has not been remixed `till now. A good Musician should squeeze an awesome Track out of the Original.

If it's a C64 game you can enter the killer POKE 788,0.

Always works. The cockiest of games won't be singing any more when you batter them with that!

Arabian Nights - Amiga. Love it. Just another good example that the Commodore-Computer could match every SNES and Mega Drive-Jump n`Run back in the days.

Oh I don't know Sarah.

Giana Sisters was a pile of puke, especially compared to Super Mario Bros!

Action Biker? Lovely little game.

With all my photo graphic-ing and meddling with music again I clean forgot about the games. Talk about a classic machine going above what it was made for. I'd like to see people say that about the Playstation.

If only the stuff you get now was available from day 1 - even the Amiga would have struggled to match the 64's popularity at the time it did.
