To run on the original system you need some kind of 'flash cartridge', implying the C64 floppy capacity is either too small or that the programmers didn't want to put it to disk for some reason.

No flash cart seems available on Ebay. Luckily all can be run on the emulator for free and it's nice to prove the principle of being able to do the big PC things on the little 64. But if most people need the emulator to run it they may as well dig out the old DOS version.

It runs from the EasyFlash cartridge, which has 1Mb of memory. And it actually spools animation and uses look-up tables from the cartridge as the game is played, so it would not be possible on a standard C64 (since it is based on the Apple II code that uses up to 128K of memory at a time).

I suspect as it's homebrew, it'll be as rare and expensive as a pristine, never-opened old Commie. Either that or grab the new C64x when it eventually ends up in remaindered bins.



Nice idea to have a true C64-like case housing a PC. But for what it is it's rather expensive, at £220 for the case alone. Interesting thought to have one running as my server to the C64 and data transfer unit.

For me to buy one as the C64 upgrade it's touted as, it would need to be at least packed with special data transfer tools on a chip, and/or the original connections. It would be vital to at least plug a Datasette or 1541 in and have them run as-if native.

The Easy Flash can be bought online for as little as $40 if you look, so it isn't very expensive.

I wonder where. Even its own creators push the DIY angle, perhaps to avoid the headaches of C64 nuts clamouring for a pile of them off the line. (And on top of that you need to know what you're doing. As they say themselves, it's no disk drive substitute like C64TPC so I'd be wary of loading anything other than Persia into one.)

The Commodore Computer Club link says to try Ebay. But there's nothing on there now. And Googling 'Easy Flash Commodore 64' brings no joy.

These are basically a lot like the cartridges that Ocean and System3 used when the C64GS came out in 1990. Except that you can flash them yourself. There are also excellent versions of Maniac Mansion and Zak McKracken for EasyFlash, with all kinds of extra goodies and no loading times.
