Thanks Sub. Some real classic games there. The bid had ended but there are luckily plenty more. I want to complete my Playstation 2 music software now. There's much nice stuff still bouncing around for that, which are still pretty cheap, and often sealed, in that twilight period between outdated and retro. I like that twilight so much.



Though in my recommended now, for some reason, is this little stamp. And it does catch my eye.

And now boffins have given us VHS tapes lasting six hours.. in Short Play. That'll be fine for taping the whole election in LP next year, so I can sleep assured that I won't miss a second of the action. (Well I've enjoyed the 60s, 70s and 80s ones off Youtube anyway.)

Well I dunno. Guitar Hero World Tour came with one in its drums and that was for the PS2. This does seem to take things a step further, along with that real MIDI guitar for the PS3 I mentioned before.




Next, a format I've neglected 'til now, as it was a bit crap even before it was launched: Video CD.

Many DVD players still play them, with its rarer cousin the Super VCD. But they were never going to work. For the price of a player and movies, you were just a few hundred short of a Laserdisc machine but plenty enough for a quality VCR with LP and Hifi. So obviously, the format was left behind. PCs could play 'em too, though, and they were big in the Far East for karaoke.

The charity shops are still good places for a pile of stuff. In the past fortnight, I spent £75 on a stack of Laserdiscs, VHS bits, records and the rest you see here, excluding the telly and stuff actually in the drawers.

The lesson is to maybe volunteer at one of the bigger shops, if only to grab some great retro gear before they chuck it for being 'unsellable'. Magnificient video stuff can be binned, as the game would have been, yet crusty and filthy old coffee machines pack the BHF shelves in my town.

My favourite picks were the drawers at £35, 14 discs for £12, stellar quality VCR for £7.50, game £3.75.
